polishing problems

i followed the sticky above on polishing wheels on how to polish, but im having trouble with ghosting. if you look at it in the house or shade the shine is what i want but once i go to install or just look at the plenum in the sun you can see the ghosting.

the first two pics are inside and thats the look im after but the last pic is in the sun and you can see the ghosting and its not what i want, almost looks dull and unpolished. how can i get rid of the ghosting? i dont want to start over.....

Re: polishing problems

What was the last grit of sandpaper you used? You may have to wetsand with something higher.

...or maybe you sanded with too high of a grit. I've seen REALLY nice work with guys wetsanding up to 1500 grit, but all the proffesional guys will tell ya not to go much higher than 800. I'm not an expert but I think it has something to do with how the white rouge needs a "little" porous texture to hide tiny little blemishes, and the super high grit removes the pores.

...something like that anyway.

Re: polishing problems

Did you use a buffing wheel? Did you finish with rouge? I got a better finish when I finished with tripoli for some reason.

I tested and wet sanded to 800 with some pieces, 1200 and 2000 with others. And they all came out the same after they were buffed on a wheel.

Re: polishing problems

I used a spiral buffing wheel for the tripoli. I actually used quite a bit of pressure on the intake when I buffed with the tripoli and it came out great. Here is a pic of the wheel I used for the triploi:
