Just found a '92 RS for 1 grand OBO

--------I didn't know where to put this mods----------

I don't have any pics yet, but I will.

The car is a '91 or '92 RS with t tops.

On the window it says 1000 OBO

The car has seen better days, but the good part is the body is pretty straight. Someone spray painted from the doors back with a rattle can and the t- tops. It looks like black paint on the t-tops the rest is red, and yes the t-tops are painted.
There is surface rust on the panels and around the glass, it seems to be minor, but then again you never know.
All of the rubber is dry rotted.
The driver side door and the hood alignment is way off.
Tires and wheels are trash, the interior looks like **** too.
BUT, it's a complete car and i'm thinking about offering the owner $500.

I need some opinions here.
I'm still working on my '92 RS, it's almost done, but I work slow.
I can buy the car and leave it outside in the weather for another year or two.
On the flip side I can buy another Camaro in two years that is a better off, if I come by one, and not have to put so much time and money it it.

With all that said, these cars are not so common like they used to be, not in these parts. I would hate to pass up a opportunity..............

I'd pass, unless they take $400 for it. You could use the car to "practice" with.

Things like a higher powered buffer, the "paint added to wax" detailing myth, stripping paint from glass, repairing rust, etc.

Re: Just found a '92 RS for 1 grand OBO

Hard to really say without pictures. But being from SC you won't have a rust issue so that is a plus. If you can get it for $500 and it runs then I say go for it. You can at least fix it up enough to sell for more than $500. Like you said these cars are not at a premium. Plus it is a T Top car. Add up what it will cost over a period of time to restore and determine if you are willing to pay that much.

Re: Just found a '92 RS for 1 grand OBO

I just talked to the owner, it's a '91 V6 with about 125000 miles on it, oh and it runs that part shocked the **** out of me.
He ask me what I was willing to give for it before I made a offer, I told him $300 and he didn't say no. Sounds like he wants rid of it asap.
I'm going to call him back in a week and maybe offer $150.

Re: Just found a '92 RS for 1 grand OBO

For $300 or under, can't go wrong. Above, I'd pass. I got my 1992 for $800, with body in great shape except for one dent in pass 1/4 panel, but the rest of car in and out was in great shape.

Re: Just found a '92 RS for 1 grand OBO

That would be great to get it for $150- $300 range. I bought both my my 86 iroc and my 88 gta for 2500. The gta had a 350 and 60k original miles and one owner, and the iroc has 104k and one owner with a 305 h.o. I put the gta at my friends warehouse,he is a car collector, since it was in such good condition except the windshield tires, which were replaced i thought he could show it off,so i sold it to him for ...get this $8k and i only paid $1250 for it, but i would have kept it if it was an older body stlye...didnt like the front cap or ground effects. I like the body oy the camaro, plus i am a die hard camaro freak, when i got married my wife knew i liked them so much she did it in all old school camaroes, 67-69. Lets just say i was very xcited. but any way i dumped all the money i got from the bird into the new motor in the iroc. Sorry bout the rambling but ne way buy and part it out to make more money to fix ur camaro!

Re: Just found a '92 RS for 1 grand OBO

The only thing I'd be concerned about is that fresh paint. Could be covering 20 pounds of Bondo. But for that price, you don't have much to lose.

I'm looking at a crate motor from Jegs.

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_395208_-1

But i'm having a hard time deciding on it. Money isn't the issue it's the smog laws that we don't have here in SC, YET. I'm afraid that once I change the motor to a carb some stupid law will get passed and then i'm screwed.

BTW- Does anyone know if cars older than 20 years are exempt from smog laws?

The Chevy 383 is a stroker motor. So yes, you have to.

Unless you're talking about a Mopar 383. Then you don't have to stroke it.
