Firebird 1piece blackout
I searched for 1 piece early firebird blackout, ala Knight Rider.
I have a 92 vert in which I put in the 83 flat tail lights with the intention to put in the one piece blackout. Now, I can't seem to find that blackout anywhere.
Are there any places that sell this?? I looked at the KR conversion sites but they want too much for one IMO.
If push comes to shove do you think I can fab one up with tinted plexiglass??

Back in the early to mid 90's, when I still had my 83 Trans Am, I remember wanting to order that blackout.
Anyway, I remeber it used to be in J.C. Whitney's catalog, I dunno if it still is or not.

If you could find tinted plexiglass, you could make one pretty easily. Cut out a template with cardboard, trace that template over the plexiglass. Cut the template out with a dremel and re-enforced dremel cutting discs. Then wetsand down the edges. Use 2 sided velcro to attach the plexiglass to the taillights.
Most KR parts are way overpriced.

Re: Firebird 1piece blackout
i just did the one piece plexi mod yesterday.i worked at a glass shop for 3 years so i have a little experience with this sorta thing. My dad still works there so i just go in and use their equipment and they don't mind.A dremel will give you a crooked edge. The proper way is to use a straight edge and score the plexi about 5 times with a plexi knife.these are like a utility knife with a hooked blade so it tears out the plexi as you go.should be available a t home depot for cheap.then dremel or jigsaw the rounded corners while keeping it cool with water.heat will cause it to crack.I found this looks kinda plain when its done so i think i might get a vinyl shop to make some simulation euro tails...like nascars have.My 84 has a lot of custom work so it shouldn't look tacky as it would on a simple resto car.
