rear louvers
so i've really been thinking of putting them on my car, only problem is i don't know where to get them, and i don't want to pay $200-$300 for them, and did the 92 camaro's come with 1 piece or 3 piece?

Re: rear louvers
Check the classifieds here(where I found mine),J-yards are a good idea,TGO sponsors and Ebay but ask questions about mounting hardware. Most are 3 piece including the factory option ones but I believe there were 1 piece versions made. And look at them to make sure they aren't for '86 with cutout for exterior hatch mount stop lamp. Also there was a different version for cars with the rear wiper option.

Yea, better get used to paying what they're worth. If you're über lucky, you might get them cheaper, but I wouldn't count on it.
I have a set like those, in my basement. I got them, then realized I can't use them with my rear wiper
I'm still holding out to use them on my next Camaro, but that might not happen for years and years.... Thing is, I woulda given my left.... kidney.... for a set of these, now I have them and I can't even use them!?!?!

Re: rear louvers
Nice find. My car came with them from the factory, but twenty years of CA sun has done a number. I need to do a COMPLETE disassembly, paint/powdercoat, replace rubber, gaskets, etc. They rattle, but the car would look naked without them.

Mine were faded pretty bad, so when I had my bumpers redone the body guy offered to redo the louvers for free... SCORE!!!

Re: rear louvers
All of the good sets are 3 piece sets. They may look like 1 piece, but the factory set, shown in the picture above, has 2 ABS sides and aluminum slats. The one piece look is the best look IMO. The ones shown in the eBay listing above don't follow the car's lines very well. I still have NOS parts available if needed. I have the 2 ABS sides, 2 91/92 3rd brake light louvers slats, also seen above on the black car, and most of the individual slats.

Re: rear louvers
there is something about louvers on a 3rd gen that just says Sweet..... I guess I grew up seeing them on the upper end camaro's and TA's and just fell in love with them. I just will not pay what they want for them used.

Re: rear louvers
Not a complete set. I bought 2 sets of the 91/92 series a few years back when I was able to locate them. From there, I took slats 2 and 5 from 1 set to replace the third light slats of 3 and 4. I now have the end ABS sections, slats 1, 3-4 (x2), 6-10. Remember that 3 and 4 are the brake light setup and I now have 2 of those if someone needs one. Unfortunately, the mounting hardware has also been sold to another member a few years back so I pretty much have replacement parts for damaged sets. They are new in the box.

Re: rear louvers
oh, alright, thanks anyways, 1 more quick question tho, if i were to buy a 1 piece set of louvers for my 92.. will it look too tacky when i hit the break light?

Re: rear louvers
Personally, I think it will look better without the 3rd brake section. The light will shine right thru the louvers and it will have a much smoother look. It will look just like mike_c's above. The 3rd brake light is inside on the 92, so there isn't a requirement to have the cutout.
I found mine by calling dealers and have them do a nationwide search for the louvers. Sometimes, they are even willing to sell them cheaper than original just to get them out of their inventory.

never thought to call a dealer before, thanks for the idea i'll get on that tomarrow more then likely.. i'm waiting on them to send all my front end pieces i ordered, kinda excited i'm getting my car painted finally.. only down side is that alotta the cars i see on here look like mine lol, guess the 90-92 styles are way more common then i thought, kinda weird how once you buy a car you see them non stop.. i wanna find a good set of rims to set the car apart.. but the more i think ar 690's are fairly common..

Re: rear louvers
I was lucky to find a set on ebay last year. A NOS set of Cragar louvers in the original box w/ instructions and all the hardware still sealed. These fit on the car with the wrap around spoiler like the ones in Mike_C's pic Just gotta put them on sometime.

Re: rear louvers
Guess what amazon.com has louvers... For 1990 or below
http://www.amazon.com/Astra-Hammond-...718004&sr=1-33
Hawks has them too. I am sure shipping would be a little pricey.

Re: rear louvers
I think the Hammond sets are full plastic, even the slats. Their not as bad as some sets out there, but they do sit higher than factory. They allow for cars with the wiper so they are pretty generic. I had a set of Hammonds back in 85 before GM started making them. They were ok then, but the factory ones are definately better if you can find 'em.

Re: rear louvers
Yeah, the square ones look like crap. If you find a set make sure they will work with your spoiler. The ones I have actually state on the instructions that they are made for Firebirds WITH the wrap around spoiler.

Good luck to you guys looking for the 91-92 cut out style. By 1991 louvers were on there way out of style, so i cannot see that they sold alot. If you see them i'd jump on them at any price.

Re: rear louvers
I paid a premium for a NOS set off ebay a few years ago
After I painted my car i decided to go with the clean and sleek look so i never put them on
Gonna hang onto them until someone is willing to pay what they are worth
Also the sides are semi-flexible ABS plastic, the full slats are thin aluminum
The brake light section is rigid plastic and the short slat sections near them are aluminum

Re: rear louvers
hmmm...that sucks. Oh well, I checked the part number and it says it's actually for '86-'89 Camaro's. I'm sure Firebirds too, just need the third brake light. I have a set of cragers on my firebird...wonder if the slats from that would interchange. Would you know?
I found a NOS set of factory louvers, but the same as your's with the third brake light. My cragers are also for cars with the rear wiper, and my car doesn't have one. They sit higher, and I like the lower look with the other kind.

Re: rear louvers
The set he has is for 86 and 87 only. They are for 86 cars with the third brake mounted externally and for 87 cars that did not have a rear spoiler so again had the exterior mounted light. I have 2 of the 91/92 3rd brake light assemblies, so if you want to keep the original look, I can help set that up.
