Is CHROME supposed to RUST????

I bought an open air element at A-zone last year, house brand, and got home, took it out, and it said "Edelbrock" all over the top...so I think, "Cool! An Edelbrock insignia on my air element for the A-zone price!" Today, I was washing the car, and noticed RUST on the inside edges of the top of my open air element cover...isn't chrome not supposed to rust? Is it a ripoff, or what? Thanks...

Edelbrock Strut Tower Brace
South Side Machine subframe connectors

When your buddy reaches for a 10-pound sledge and says "I think we're gonna have to modify the floor pan, okay?" the answer is NO.

Chrome doensn't rust. Chips in the chrome, where the metal can show through cause the rust. Most likely it was a sh!tty chrome job. Most of the cheap chrome air cleaners rust. AC/Delco chrome air cleaners are chromed pretty good. The K&N I have hasn't started to rust--yet. A little steel wool will get rid of that rust, for a while anyway.

Get some chrome polish too. I believe Turtle Wax makes a cheap bottle. It is chrome wax with rust remover. This will put a nice protective layer over your thin chrome.
