Anybody else hate the 91-92 Bird Nose???

Is it just me or are the 91-92 noses on the Firebirds just the ugliest things ever? They ruined a great thing, I LOVED the late 80's body designs but then they had to come out with these ridiculous looking noses.

Also why weren't ground FX standard on ALL Birds. (don't say weight, the real enthusiasts could delete them) I personally would NEVER buy a base Bird or a Fromula simply becasue they don't have the ground FX.

The RS has them, so why couldn't Pontiac put them on the base model?

This is just my opinion so please don't start flaming me.

What is everybody's opinion, Which bird style is best?
82-85(or 84)
85-90
or 91-92

Sorry for the totally pointless thread

Looks pretty sweet to me. Someone has some pent up hostility huh ?

I like the 85-90 gfx of the 3 though,, but I wouldn't complain at all to have 92fire-audios car (pics above)

What was the point of this post?

I'm not much of a fan of the spoiler on the 91-92 Z28, but I'm not gonna go out and make a post about it!!

well, it might not be just you, but I am not with you. I personally belive that the 91-92 nose looks great on the 91-92 body. I think that both ways look good. Its 2 different styles. I dont mind hearing about opinions here, but I wouldnt expect a huge following though. Most people here are open-minded about thier f-bodies. certain rims might look good on one,and not the other, and that goes for all examples, including noses.
this one is my personal fav...

and one more opinion, I personaly do not care for gfx. I would drive a gta/ta do not get me wrong, but I like the formula body better. same engine set-up, same features, but no gfx. just my opinion though...

That gorgeous nose is the primary reason I bought my car. The first time I saw that nose was May, 1991. I fell in love with it at first sight, and I still think it's one of the coolest front ends ever put on a Firebird, right up there with the 70 - 73.

Well, from what I hear, you either love the nose like I do, or you hate it like you do. There dosen't seem to be any middle of the road on this one.

I happen to think that the 91-92 nose looks the best out of the thirdgen Firebird years. That is why I bought my car:

I feel the nose gives the cars a much sleeker, more stylish look. In fact, I feel that the newer Corvette's front end looks similiar. I don't know how many times I have mistaken an oncoming Corvette for a 91 Firebird, at least from a distance. Was the nose ahead of its time?

Love 'em or hate 'em, at least they are a F-body! You should probably watch negative coments towards people's cars on this board though. I think we all have a certain car year, or nose, or paint job that we despise, but we are content wih the fact that we are "playing for the same team" here and that differences in personal taste and style are what makes us all individuals...

Sorry if I offended anybody. I would still take the 91-92 Birds over most other cars but I just don't like the nose. I really don't know why, it seems out of place on a thirdgen body somehow.

Obviously you people don't agree with me, and I gotta admit some 91-91 Birds look sweet, but all I am saying is that if I was designing the Pontiacs I would keep the older nose and ground fx.

For the most part, I dont like the look of the nose on the '91-'92 birds. But there are a few exceptions, such as the beautiful black and green TA's shown. I would much rather have the nose style from the '85-'90 TA. I also do not like the nose on the '82-'83, which is exactly why my car has the nose from an '86 instead of the original. It is all personal preference. I dont really judge a TA by its nose. Most of the '91-'92's around where I live look horrible and aren't taken care of. Some of the '91-'92 TA's are ugly as sin, while others are the nicest cars I have ever seen. Oh, by the way the black one shown in this post is my favorite '91-'92 I have ever seen. It looks great especially in black with those rims. If I were ever to buy a '91-'92 TA, that would be the car I wanted. Nice car to whose ever it is.

I really like the style of those noses. That's why I bought my 91'. And what's wrong with buying a base model firebird?? Mine came with gfx and the LO3? What gives? Didn't all of them come with gfx?

Finally somebody who agrees with me, the 85-90 nose is best, others still look ok but not as good.

As for buying the base Firebird, there nothing wrong with it or tle LO3. I was looking at Lo3's for 4 months before I found my LB9. About the ground FX I meant the 85-90 Base and Formula mmodels. They look better with the ground FX.

I prefer the 85-90 nose. The 91-92's are nice but I just like the older ones better. I also don't mind the no GFX look of the Base and Formula 'Birds. The way I see it an F-body is an F-body they are all sweet (except the beaten/'riced' ones - but I see those as lost souls or something ) I don't see why some people hate Camaro's and love Firebird's or hate Firebird's and love Camaro's they are all close to the same and all kick @$$.

You should see the nose on the kid who sits next to me in History! Wow! Its huge and boney! On a serious note, I disagree with you 100%. If I had to chose one it would be the 91-92 Firebird. I don't like the earlier ones with the two black bumper thingys on either side of the plate. I don't know what years, but I'm sure you can figure it out. I love the nose on the 91-91 birds.

The nose you're referring to is from 82-84 and I like that nose even less then the 91-92. The nose I like is the 85-90 like the black TA in the pics above.

I would have to say the 91-92 nose are the most agressive ones and nicest out of the 3rd gens...in fact, i am planning on swapping the front nose of my 86 out for a 91-92 with ground effects before it gets painted. I do like the earlier noses, but the 91-92's take the cake in my opinion.

...but yo gotta do what you gotta do, if you do swap the noses I'll be happy to take the old nose off your hands (provided it has no dents). When this does happen please E-mail me because my nose has two dents in it and they **** me off...

Hey,
I for one think the 91 92 front ends are absolutely the ugliest front ends ever. I like my friends 86 sc front end with no ground effects better..... a lot better. I think that they are the ugliest snarliest looking thinksl.
I think the 85-90 trans am front ends are bad @$$, best looking front ends for a third gen. Id like to try to use some fiberglass and put the 91-92 camaro ground effects on lets say a 90 GTA (I think it would be sweet)!
I say that if phantom puts that piece of #@@# snarly lookin front end on his car we all beat him like a red headed step child!

PhantomTPI e-mail me massarian@hotmail.com when your ready to depart with your current gfx. I've been looking for a good set. Personaly I think the 91-92 is better looking, but I drive a 90 and think the 85-90 styling is pretty cool too.

Hey, Importslut....

I have no prolem with an opinion. But grow up and be mature about it at least. BTW, if you tried to beat me...let me just laugh for a second...AHAAHAAAHAAHAAAA...ok...done..you'd loose, son. I promise.

Maksik7....

LOL If i do the swap, i will let you know. However, i must say that this was a Jersey car prior to the PA move...so the front end has 4 holes for license plate brackets, and is indented from the holder for the plate. Yea, i hate front plates too. Anyways, now that i am out here in PA, i took them off, and there are rust stains where the bolts went for the brackets. But, I'll let you know if you are interested. I am from NJ, so i know my way around. Later.

Maksik7 beat you to it But if he wont take my front end, then i will let you know, or put it in the classifieds. I dont know when i will do the swap, but i hope to this summer sometime...right now, $$ is tight...and i still need to find a donor car. But, i will let those interested know. Yea, i definetly like the 91-92's better, but i do like the 85-90 styling also

CleanRS, please shorten that sig, It's WAY too long. Make a link to a website with that long list. If we all made sigs like that this page would be 100 printed pages already.

About the firebirds: 85-90 look SO good. They have a lower profile. The 91-92 (I had one, was a 91 red firebird) looks like the formula with almost no ground effects. I do understand that the 91-92 is more aerodynamic but I personally don't like the looks. I also don't like the 93-?? firebirds and the super pointy front.
As for camaros, I like the 91-92 ground effects. If I wanted just speed and didn't care what it looked like I would go with an 86 sport couple, now that was base model (owned one of those....but not for long).
Somebody sayd they didn't like the 91-92 z28 spoiler. I have one on my car but I understand why a lot of people don't like them. They think it's too big and too radical considering every other thirdgen had a super low profile spoiler. My main reason for getting it was to get RID of the ugly wrap around spoiler. I didn't like how it came across the deck lid and onto the body. I like the z28 because it doesn't look like rice (91 is when it came out!!!) and it does a good job complimenting the 91-92 camaro ground effects.
If I had to buy a firebird I'd go with an 85-90 trans am, they look SO good. I think they have one of the best looking front ends.

i personally think that the 91-92 noses are the best looking for the birds, only without the license plate in the front though. they look so much meaner. thats what made me purchase my 91 in the first place. but i had to give it up so i can get my z28.
a friend of mine told me once when i had my bird, that the front end of my car looks "demonic". the front nose in a sense does kinda look like some kinda bird of prey. look at it and just use ur imagination. if i could afford it, i would buy myself another 91-92 bird. that is if i could keep my z too.

oh well 2 each their own opinion i guess

a friend of mine told me once when i had my bird, that the front end of my car looks "demonic". the front nose in a sense does kinda look like some kinda bird of prey.

The only thing I dont like about the noses is trying to change fog light bulbs. Also all birds looked the same have to wait for them to pass to tell what they are. I love it on my car though. Hey crusader in that pic of yours the black bird looks just like my girlfriends moms old bird and the red one looks just like my buddies 89formula. what a coincidence,

Man, I cant believe Im hearing this.... Those 91 - 92 front ends are so horrendous. They look like snarly pieces of Sh$%!! The 85 - 90 Trans Am front end is the best looking, then the iroc, then.... then... then.... then the snarly piece!

IMHO the thirdgen firebirds are a little too generic for me, and yes the 91-92 nose is a bit of overkill. There are some fine examples of these cars out there, but I prefer the Camaros of the same years. Just my opinion.

I think the 85-90 look the best, and the new ram air Trans Ams look great.
The 91-92 look good, but seems out of proportion to the rest of the car.
By the way Deadbird very nice car!

LOLOLOL Maksik....I'm just here b/c I want a 91-92 front end, and like them better than my 85-90 type front end-whoa!!! A socket wrench just flew through my computer screen...gotta run now...
...with teh best looking nose EVER
LOLOLOL At least we know where you stand on this

And yes, the 91-92's look 20x meaner...a car can be an expression of one's personality...such as aggressive...well, although i am not always aggressive, such a fine automobile would reflect a part of who i am...that is what i want. The 85-90's are nice front ends, but not aggressive enough for MY taste Still nice, though. Very nice. If i wanted a non-aggressive car, I would have bought a slick hyandai elantra.

Just for the record, I prefer the 86 - 90 T/A - GTA nose. My favorite thirdgen of all time would have to be a 88-90 black GTA, 350 TPI hardtop (and I own 2 Camaros!!), which I hope to own someday. As far as the 91-92 nose goes, it looks OK, but I really dislike the 91-92 T/A GFX. The 91-92 Formula is a pretty sleek looking car, but I don't like the super-huge rocker GFX that seems to come half-way up the door, and I don't care for the rear bumper GFX either. I wouldn't go as far to call them ugly, and yes, I would own one, but they really just look too added-on to me, almost like an aftermarket body kit. JMHO

Firebird too generic! Ha, anyway, 91-92 noses are the worst. They cannot get low enough, period. You can slam the car until the floor pans are scraping on the ground and the front end will still be too high. I love the options of the 91/92 (MAP instead of MAF and airbags) but I can't stand the nose... ground effects made them standable to look at... but w/o ground effects I grimace, as bad a 82-86 Sport Coupes.... which is a totally different story
I have owned a 92 Camaro and a 90 Firebird... and I would never ever own a 91-92 Firebird unless I ripped the rain gutter gfx off and the nose and the bumper and made it a 85-90 look alike...
Course, I was thinking about doing that anyway....

I like all thirdgens,i personally am a camaro guy but i would own a formula or t/a,as for years, the 92 firebirds are nice but i like the earlier firebirds the best as a whole car,i actually miss knight rider alot, that car was sweet and really made me fall in love with the thirdgens.

I am going to lock this. Not sure it is a benefit to Thirdgen.

Thanks,
Chuck
