How to care for new paint???

I think Im getting my car back from the paint shop in a week and I was just wondering what the best way to take care of it is. Whats the best stuff to wash a car with? How long should I wait before I use Zaino? Any recomendations welcome. I'll post a pic when I get the car back.

Hi Mike,

I assume you had a professional two-stage (base/clear) paint job. If so, this advice would apply.

I just had my '92 painted. The painter has 30+ years of experience. He does exclusively show cars except for friends. He did my '67 which has an awesome paint job. He agreed to do my '92 even though it's my summer daily driver [and it's "only" a Pontiac - he's a Mopar guy].

I asked him about waiting before treating the paint. He said there's no need to do so. He said that the new paint formulas do not need to "dry" or "breath" or any of that stuff. He always waxes cars within a day or two of painting them. He just says be sure to use a pure product, not a cleaner wax or something like that with a mild abrasive built in.

So my car was finished last week. He waxed it. I took it home, washed it with dishwashing liquid to take off his wax, and started in with the Zaino treatment. I have two coats of Z5 on there so far. It looks great.

If you want to see how it looks, go to the photos I posted called "photo of 67 and 92 convertible". I also posted one the other day after only one Zaino coat called something like "my turn too - photos of my freshly painted 92 convertible" or something stupid like that.

I hope this helps...

I too Zaino'd mine right away.

Back in the day you had to worry about paints breathing, but the paint is much more complicated now and doesn't need that much time.
