Taillight/glass filler?

I was reading the 3rd gen camaro book by Michael Lamm and there were some pictures in the back of some REALLY cool looking tail lights they were throwing out there for these cars back in 80 and 81.

One of the designs had a totally red, smooth, tail light with "Z28" in them.

It gave me an idea. I really liked the smooth look, but I also like the grids all right too. They're just not great.

Then I figured it would be cool if you could fill in the parts that are inset, ie, the grid parts. If you could fill them in with some sort of epoxy (suggestions?) and then sand it all smooth and use plastic polish to polish it up (I hear the firebird guys do this since their lightsa re smooth) and it might look really good. Maybe.

In theory, I think it could look like the bottom firebird tail light in this picture I stole from hawks:

Only, obviously, a much bigger grid pattern. But it would give you that smooth taillight cover look without the illegality problems.
