Dash compatablitity question?

So I'm at the wrecking yard today getting a pocket for my gas filler and noticed they have added another third gen to their inventory. I start checking it out and can't believe my eyes when I see it's dash pad does not have a single crack in it! They said I could have it for $125.00 which I think is an outstanding price.

The car is a '91 Firebird and I have an '86 IROC. The Firebird dash should fit my car, right?

Also, anyone out there tried this? If so, I'd love to see some pictures,

No, not interchangeable.

For the sake of information, where Camaros are concerned, there are two designs: 82-84 and 85-92.

As I mention above, the Firebird and Camaro pads do not interchange.

I got hit by the same thing. I bought what I was told was a camaro dash with no crack for 40 bucks and thought I got a steal of a deal but turned out to be a firebird dash. It's just chilling in my closet now in case i end up with a bird

Re: Dash compatablitity question?

The Camaro dash pad has a slight cut out in the front center for the Hvac vents... Firebird is straight flat across.

It's not just that, the firebird dash isn't as long from front to back either.

Re: Dash compatablitity question?

The dash and center console are among the list of parts that are completely different between Camaros and Firebirds :
- quarter panels
- fenders
- hood
- front and rear bumper
- tail lights and tail panel
- ground effects
- dash
- center console
- seats, rims, door panels are interchangeable but different style
That's for the major stuff

Re: Dash compatablitity question?

Just ran across an '84 Camaro with a perfect dash. You're all saying this will NOT fit my '86 IROC?

Thats not what they are saying. Camaro dash pads do not fit Firebirds. Firebird dash pads do not fit Camaros. An '84 Camaro pad will fit just fine in an '86 Camaro.

Re: Dash compatablitity question?

Yes,.. the 84 Camaro dash pad WILL fit your 86 without any problems.

I'm almost certain that Ceamaro dash pad range is 82-83 ( with the "line" along the front edge ) and 84-92 style. ( with rounded edge ). There might be a later 90's style that's "year correct" too,..... something to do with the speaker grills or something,....... ??

Any ThirdGen Camaro dash pad will fit without modifications to any other 82-92 . The changes are changes for year to year style only,... mounting is not an issue and they are all interchangeable.

The easiest way to figure out if your looking at a Camaro pad vs. a Firebird pad is to look for a notch in the center/front lip of the pad. As Night rider327 pointed out,... The Camaro has the notch in the front edge for the Blower Vents while the Firebird pad is straight across the front lip.

Re: Dash compatablitity question?

Great find! The Firebird dash pad is worth much more than one for a Camaro. You could sell/trade and come out ahead.
