16x8 wheels: 4-1/2" or 5-1/2" backspacing?

I went to order a set of 16x8 Centerline Telstars the other day thinking I needed them w/ 5-1/2" backspacing but the guy said I only needed 4-1/2". I tried fitting a stock Buick GS wheel (15x7, 4-1/2" bs off my 72 GS) and it didn't clear the rear caliper? Is the guy wrong?

Well I have centerline scorpions on my iroc and the back spacing i used is 4 1/2 up front and 5 in the rear.Thats what the factory rim are.I ordered mine from summit and the guy told me 4 1/2 all round. But i went with the factory specs and i have no problems with them at all...
