Question on stripping alum. wheel, running into a problem...
Alright, I scored a spare wheel from a junkyard for 20 bucks to use as a "test" wheel for my first stripping. Make note, the wheel wasnt in great condition to start with, not totally lost but nothing good.
I used the aircraft stripper and alum. polish way. The stripper works fine and took the clearcoat off with no problems but after giving it a rinse to get the rest of the stripper and coating off I noticed some blemishes that arent scratches or left over coating. I dont know what it is, oxidation maybe? Anyways, I tried to use some more stipper which didnt work, then tried to polish a little spot to see if it would cover it, which it doesnt, then I took out the dremel with the polishing wheel and rubbing compound and tried the soft wire wheel, both didnt work.
Does anyone have any thoughts or have run into this refinishing wheels? The only thing I can think of now is to use an actual buffer on it and hopefully take out the spot.
Another note about them (blemishes) to help clarify, they look like scrathes but definatly arent (beleive me) and when i rub my finger over them they are as smooth as the wheel which leads me to beleive they are in the wheel but I dont see how thats possible
Here are some picture I took, good thing I tried this on a test wheel before my wheel otherwise Id be more pissed, I dont reaslly care about this one but if I cant get this wheel to look good Im not going to bother with my better ones.
P.S. there are some long sratches in the wheel, thats not the things Im talking about, its all the other little dull spots Im talking about...
Thanks for any help guys

The only way I've found to get rid of that is to sand it out. Sanding will scratch the machine grooves though. I ended up sanding my wheels completely smooth getting rid of all of the machine grooves.
120 grit to get rid of the machine grooves
320 Wet sand
400 Wet sand
600 wet sand
00000 steel wool
polish
It's alot of work, but they'll come out looking really nice.

Thanks man, I was hoping not to come to that but it looks like I must. Your wheel looks unbeleivable though after its done.
What did you use to sand it? by hand, DA?

They were all sanded by hand many, many hours.

I was just stripping my extra set of IROC wheels today and ran into the same problem. That, and some clearcoat that doesnt wanna come off.
