Auto Detailer or Body Shop?
The paint on my car is very hazy and heavily oxidized. I want to get a professional opinion as to whether the paint is even salvageable. Would it be better to take to an auto detailer or a body shop? Which one would have more experience restoring bad paint?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Auto Detailer or Body Shop?
most body shops have a detail shop too so just take it to a body shop and they will know what to do. i know after we paint cars where i work we send them to the detail shop unless a run or something is in it then we fix stuff like that.

In my opinion either would be fine. As long as the detailer is experienced.

Most detailers should be expierenced enough to bring a shine back to the paint. Like 89import eater said, most body shops will have a detail shop too. The body shop where I am employed has a detail area also. It might be a little cheaper to get it done at just a straight out detailer though, but I am not for sure.

Thanks guys.
I might be leaning more toward a straight detailer if it's going to be cheaper. I'll have to ask around to see if anyone knows a reputable one to go to.
Unless one of you know a good shop in the Des Moines area.

Re: Auto Detailer or Body Shop?
I'd go talk to a detailer rather than a body shop. Body shops are production environments and, surprisingly enough, don't always know that much about real paint detailing. I know it sounds counter intuitive, and I don't mean to insult body and paint guys, but they work in a production environment and generally won't spend the time to make the paint truly perfect. No matter how good they are shooting the stuff, matching colors, etc, it's a whole different skill set to properly polish paint.
Now, this isn't to say all pro detailers know what they're doing either. I've seen too many people ask how to fix the problems caused by their detailer. These days it seems anyone with a rotary buffer calls themselves a detailer, but they don't have a clue what they're doing and leave behind all kinds of buffer swirls and holograms, then just cover those up with a glaze that washes off in a couple months. That's not detailing either.
