Difference between painting metal and plastic?

((Before you start reading more, the paint on my bumper and the paint on my hood in the picture is different, that fading isn't the problem I'm talking about...The picture is also from a cell phone, so you know what that means...))

So, I've painted me hood, front bumper, and rear hatch area (part spoiler bolts to)...
They already had paint on them but it was fading and the clear coat was chipping and all that good stuff, so I grabbed some steel wool and roughed up the paint some, and then got it down really smooth again.

My bumper came out great! Wouldn't mind if my whole car looked like it does!

But my hood and rear hatch area are very blurred, I believe it's what everyone calls orange peeling or something...

I've got a clear reflection in my bumper, but the other stuff, I mean I have a reflection but it's defenitely NOT a mirror finish.
I used the same gun, with the same settings, and the same paint. Pretty much the exact same environment, too. I mean, it was the same place (garage), but I can't change the day to day weather.

Is there a difference between painting the plastic and metal? Does that have anything to do with it?

I'm ashamed to say, the paint on my hood is Dupli-Color Paint Shop. Haven't heard great reviews on it, but I read those after the painting.

The paint on my hatch area\front bumper is Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000 Black BaseCoat, and I went with the Dupli-Color clear coat.
Both were 50% paint, 50% acetone.

I did my hood a while ago, did the other stuff over the weekend.

I'm a beginner with this, but when I saw how great my bumper came out for me just starting out with this painting thing, I jumped right into painting my rear hatch area.
But I was really dissapointed with how it came out.

Any ideas on what it might be?
