VHT Paint - Jethro Strikes Again
My favorite line from the Beverly Hillbillies:
Anyways down to business.
I got around to painting the second SLP runner today after spending 2 weeks putting a 220 grit finish on it and removing the cast appearance along with work and family life.
I hung it to cure and came back a couple hours later to check it. Looked good. But there was a spot right in plain view where I didn't like how the clear took. Didn't look smooth enough. So I figured, "Well, I can just sneak in another wet coat here. I've done it plenty of times before with several types of spray with no problems".
"Chhhhh...Oh, this is taking quite nicely. I think it will look much better af- @_@!!!!!"
So now I'm approaching the deadline where this part needs to at the shop to get bolted onto the car, and the local place I get the VHT from is closed over the weekends. I barely have enough clear left, but enough black.
So my question is this: I don't have enough clear for the recommended application of 2 light coats and one wet coat. I have enough for the 3 coats of gloss black and just enough clear for a single wet coat. If I do it this way, without applying TOO MUCH clear to the point where it will run, will I run into any adverse problems? Will the finish not be as gloss/deep as normal? This is my only option left at this point. PLEASE HELP!!!
"Jethro, did you fix the brakes on this car!?"
"Why yes Ma'am! I took the old ones off this morning...
...The new ones will be arriving in the mail next week!"

Well if you already put 3 coats of clear on it then reclearing with 1 coat should be fine. What exactly happened?Did you get a run?Can the part just be buffed?
If you are going to reclear the part, wet sand with 1000 grit, make sure you blow dry the part well and lay down a nice wet coat of clear. You should be fine.Typically we only do 2 wet coats of clear but everyone does things a little different.GOod luck!

Re: VHT Paint - Jethro Strikes Again
It lifted the paint.
It would have been ALOT more trouble to try and fix it than just strip it redo it so thats what I did.
