started polishing rims.

ok so since i am selling my WELD PROSTARS i thought i would polish the stock IROCs all nice to match the new paint. that way the old rims with part of the clear coat falling off.
well anyways, after a long search at walmart for Airplane Paint Stripper, i bought the sand paper also and tonight i started.
i only did one for now. tomorrow i will do the rest.
first i rinse off the rim.
then i put the APS on with a brush.
and let it sit for a few min 15-45 is recommended.
then i took a putty knife and scraped the APS off and then sprayed the rim off.
and with the clear coat off i started to sand with:
150 medium (dry)
320 fine (dry)
400 fine (wet)
and that is as far as i got. the clear coat must have fogged up or it is just really hazy normally. because once i stripped the clear the rims were really shiny.
if it wasnt for the scratches from the putty knife i might have just left the rim. but i am sure it will look better after i get the:
800 dry/wet
1000-1200 dry/wet
and then 1500 wet after 3M marine aluminum restorer, and then mothers at the end.

i will take pics of them side by side and the finished product.

Rare i think you should buy headers with the money from the weld's to go with your borla exhaust!

I am realy interested in how the rims look when completed. Let me know on the time involved in the whole process also.

Thats almost the exact same process I used on my old Iroc wheels , the aircraft stripper is awesome , the clear practically just fell off For the final try 0000 steel wool with mothers aluminum polish , then after polishing it with the steel wool polish off the remaining polish with terrycloth . I'll post pic's of how mine looked if photopoint ever gets back on line , there site has been down for like a week now
