How hard is it to put tint on the windows? I was looking on ebay, there only 24.99, and they are precut. Also does anyone have any pictures of a camaro with 2.5% tint?

Re: Tint
Not to be offensive but tinting is best left to professionals. You have to know how to lay the widows down to keep them from creasing and bubbling. As far as 2.5% goes, that is very dark, and will not pass most inspection stations throughout the US. Just my opinion..... take it for what its worth!

Re: Tint
The sides you might be able to do yourself , but the rear one , no way. I had my trans ams hatch done it 1 piece . I bought a defrosterless glass and wanted 1 piece . Well the guy who tried to do it has been doing cars for 18+ years and couldnt get it to form at the bottom . And had to turn me to his competition . The other guy did it and it came out perfect. THe guy who did it also said it was the hardest tint job he ever did . Usually they use two pieces and butt them up at a defroster line .

Re: Tint
Tint isn't really all that expensive. I have a 4-dr sedan (Civic) and had all the windows tinted as dark as is legal and it cost me a whopping $150. Not too bad.

Re: Tint
It usually takes my window guy at least 1-1/2 hours just to do a back glass on our cars..... but he is the only one around that I'm aware of that does it in one piece..... with or without rear defroster..... and it usually runs around 150-200 depending on which tint is used.

Re: Tint
I have tinted a few windows boefore on cars and houses and You will need a few people for that back window. If that piece touches itself anywhere it will be hell getting it appart and if you do it will most likely have a cress in it. Most shops around here do it for 110-120. I put 2.5 on my brothers truck and about three months ago a cop pulled him over did a tint test and the cop said it was 1% and took a razor blade and sliced the tint on every window.

My tint was very easy because I paid for it to be done.
Seriously, it was put on 15 years ago and still looks like new and no discoloration. Don't skimp on cheap stuff. Do it right and do it once.

Re: Tint
You also need to consider that at manufacture, the windows have some degree of tint, especially for cars with A/C. That 2.5% added to what was in the glass could have been 1%. There is a margin of error allowable and, IIRC trucks and SUV's can be as dark as you want behind the front seat. Since that was a truck, it should have been left alone, unless the front windows were too dark.

Re: Tint
To add to the thought of the cop using a razor knife on the windows..... it is illegal to do that to a vehicle....(1) running a knife on a window leaves lines which will weaken the glass....(2) it also depending on how much the officer cuts can impair the vision of the driver.... (3) all it takes is to pull away from an accident and get into an accident and it can be contributed to the action the officer has taken.... hence "lawsuits" tend to happen. I run 5% on my front windows and 2 layers of 5% on the ext. cab windows and back slider and love it..... my old TA was 20% drv. & pass. and 5% on the rear hatch.....sorry for the rambing on

Re: Tint
This is almost entirely my opinion.
This is the one part that is not. You need to look up your state laws first to see what is legal. Clear glass also has a "tint" of around 70% give or take. (or it lets 70% of light thru)
Personally, I like the tint on my Camaro and Silverado. My Silverado I paid to have done. 50% front, and 15% rear. Kinda dark out he back windows during the day, but not bad, night you can't see anything.
My car I bought with 35% all around. Looks bad. The only reason I haven't had it redone, is because my car need a lot of work, and I will get to it eventually. That being said, it's not real bad, but I do like just having it, cuts down the sun nicely.
Here's my problem, I bought my car out of state. I cannot legally tint my front windows. Being that my car normally stays out of state I don't care. I have had my car home several times, usually have the windows down cause the AC dosen't work. Even drove it home last christmas, never got pulled over. But this September it was raining so I had the windows cracked got pulled over. 70 dollars and a not very nice cop, I still have my tint. That being said, had the cop been nicer I would have taken it off, cause like I said it dosen't look all that good. But I don't drive my car at home much, so I will just drive it on good days with the windows down. To add, I have my Silverado and an 89 F-250 that I can drive everyday, I bought my car to be a toy, so I don't need to drive it.
Another thought, this is entirely up to you, but here what I did. When I had my Silverado done, I was told I couldn't legally tint my front windows. Because I was out of state I didn't have to sight a waiver to get it done. But because I can only have clear on the front, I had it done to 50%. It's enought to see, but you almost have to look at it to see it. My truck has been home for over 2 years now with tinted windows. Never been pulled over. My mom did get pulled over cause a cop thought she was speeding. (car next to her was) But even then didn't say anything about the windows. I can legally go to 5% on the rear.
Point being if you want tint, know tickets can and will follow if it's to dark. However if it's light you might get away with it. But if they have any question about it, they are going to test it and your getting a ticket.
I would also vote proffesional. Looks much better for the cost. My cab 1/2 Silverado was 150.

Re: Tint
Here's a few pic's. Like I said front windows on the Silverado are 50%, rear 15%.
The Camaro is 35% all the way around.

Sorry I don't have a better picture of the truck.

Re: Tint
Front are 5%.... ext. cab windows are 2 layers of 5% with factory mirrored glass.. and the back glass is 2 layers of 5%. Getting ready to strip and redo all of it with 20% "high chrome" with a 5% backing so it all looks like the ext. cab windows....... not legal at all..... just figured I'd warn you!!!!!
Actually let me rephrase that..... the front 2 windows are not legal.....the rest is fine..... my dark red interior darkens it even more.

Re: Tint
5% on the fronts is my vote too. Maybe darker on the rear if you want. I did a back window on a camaro 7 years ago. It is vary hard at the bottom. As far as the tint sticking together. Get the tint,& window as wet as you can. Mine did not turn out that well, honest. The lower bends **** anyone off. I wonder if a heat gun is used to make that part work. No, not a lot of heat. Duh! lol.
