Need An Opinion On What To Do With Rust

No I'm not talking about that gut wrenching feeling you get when you discover your subframe is rotting out or your body is rusting through. I'm talking about that unsightly appearance of surface rust.

For example an area pretty bad on this is the shaft extending from the steering column under the hood.

What do you guys do to retain a pleasurable appearance? Paint these parts or use a rust converter and call it a day?

For just surface rust on a piece that is removable, I'll take it off wire wheel it and paint it. Or if it's real bad I'll just replace it. For something part of the body I'll wheel off the rust and put some Por15 or RustBullet on it. Either remove all the rust, or put a converter over it. Don't just paint it...it will come back with revenge.

Like toomany said, the wire wheel is your friend. Follow that with a zinc primer and then paint. I've done hundreds of parts like that and they hold up well.

I have a ttop bar that has a very small rust spot. What do you think I should do to remove it? Should I just sand it down and then use zinc primer on it?
