Stripping clearcoat from IROC wheels question

I bought 2 "practice" wheels to make sure I know what I am doing before i actually do my spare set. When stripping the clear coat off I noticed that the whole wheel is cleared, not just the facing.

To those of you that have already been here...do you strip the whole wheel, or just the facing? I do not want to have to be polishing the whole wheel all the time, just doing the face wouldn't be so bad. If i strip the inner part of the wheel and it corrodes will it be noticable? Will stripping the inside of the wheel affect anything once the tire is remounted?

strip it all - then polish the inside once and clear coat it again. that way it will always look good. but get a clear coat that will not grey up on you and make the inside look like it has a haze over it.
you can even color the interior and clear coat it, like oem did. just not red - it fades and looks like pink.
my black 91 came oem with black in the rims but my blue 90 came oem with no blue color matching the car. it did have a little light grey oem inside the rims.

When I did mine I stripped the whole wheel. Painted recessed area and all. Then sanded and polished the flat front faces. Then masked off and painted the recess area with some good wheel paint. They will look way better if you dont clear them but will require more up keep. In other words, you have to polish them with some good aluminum polish every once in a while.
