once 2011 is closer this website will have a sticky with all the info as far as times and everything its always at the same place every year in crete
the preregister packets go on sale like a month or two in advance at thirdgenranch.com and its cheaper if you do preregister and saves alot of time when you first get to the show

I'm pissed that I don't have enough money to do something smarter than to cut up a great condition iroc.

What does this have to do with the thread? For your information, that is not me, it is a picture from a favorite movie of mine. I don't like Tri-Five cars, they are ugly in my eyes, and I stronly disagree with somebody chopping up a rust free, running, driving Iroc-z, especially a rare yellow one, to save such a boxy and outdated car. You insulting me personally is very low. I am intitled to my own opinion, I just disagree with what you did, and it seems that most people replying to this thread have the same opinion.

Second, I am soooo happy for you and Johnny Depp.
Third, If yellow cars are sooo rare how come no one bought it from me when it was for sale BEFORE I used it for the project?
Forth, you insulted me by calling my car ugly...55-57 Chevys bring a lot higher price BECAUSE THEY ARE CLASSICS whether YOU like them or not.
Fifth, most people replying to this thread do not have the same opinion.
I'M DONE !!!! Go play with your 305 car

I dont post my opinions that often... But for F**k's sake... Dont get me wrong... I love Camaros, but honestly...Who cares! Its not like it was the last one in the entire world... Im all for what was done... They took a chance and tried something new... Thumbs up from me.... Most of the people that sit here and bash probably dont, nor will they ever have the skills to pull off something like that.... KUDOS on the build.

I must say nice job on that project...very well done! I love that '56...so what if you cut up an IROC to make the car of your dreams, it wasn't a collectors car in the first place so I don't know why all these people are complaining...I find it quite funny when someone does something totally different to a Camaro especially an IROC then you have the "hardcore stock IROC guys" freaking out hahahaha!
Anyways you did an awesome job man...hat's off to you!

Re: 56 iroc
Well regardless of whether everyone approves of his trashing an IROC, whether we like a tri5 shoebox or not, how it was slid over the IROC lower section and more or less spliced onto the rolling chassis.....
....it's a cool idea, its "hotrodding" at it's best. Look back through history and you'll find a LOT of rare cars sliced, diced, modded and otherwise altered to manufacture a piece of art in the name of hotrodding.
We need to tone the attitudes down on the guy.

The car is a prime example of what hotrodding is all about, it is a great example of american inginueity. Hats off to the builder. The Tri-Five is a classic, of the likes that no IROC will ever be. Way to update an old classic......

Hozona, love the car and love how it embodies the essence of hot rodding ingenuity. Also, they were both your cars and you did what you wanted with them. It looks like a thorough build and the end-result is beautiful. Do you have any recent pics of the 56 Chevy?
There was an era where people were chopping up 60's muscle cars for parts and hot rods. Right now, thirdgens have bottomed out. They may go up in value, or they may not. Either way, Hozona tried to sell his rare yellow IROC and nobody wanted it (probably because yellow belongs on Lamborghinis and school buses...
joking!). People aren't jumping on the opportunity to restore these cars, especially when there are plenty of decent quality cars out there with under 100k miles. I'd spend more time at a car show looking at a pristine thirdgen than a pristine tri-five Chevy, but I respect and appreciate this build. It's very cool.

I am all for restomods. But if you were going through that much trouble, why didn't you use a corvette frame, or something stiffer then a thirdgen? That is a beautiful car BTW!

I like it. Theres way to many people "hot rodding" these cars in the wrong ways. They just slap some things together and wonder why it never works right. Its nice to see someone with the time and skills to do something completely crazy, but do it RIGHT. It looks great.

I love how you say you didn't have money to go with an AM chassis, but how much did you spend in shop labor cutting up two cars and making them work together? Quality work but it had to cost a fortune to make everything mate up with all the time and custom metal work that had to be done. Personally I think 56's are the ugliest of the tri 5's. IROCs have a decent suspension but definitely not the best out there considering it was designed in the late 70's/early 80's and tweaked for the IROC model.

A price or reason cannot be put upon these. This project is an excellent example of American HotRodding....

I don't care what anyone has to say about this, aproject like this isn't about the $$$. It's about doing the job and doing it right, vision, talent ingenuity, originality, fabrication skills, etc...

He stated it was about the money which is why he didn't use an AM chassis, due to cost. It's good execution of a bad idea.

In YOUR eyes it was a bad idea. And it's not a "good execution" it is a well done "professional execution" of a good idea. Ron Boatman, the fabricator/designer, was a member of the GM Concept Studio and possesses the knowledge AND the skills to complete this project. I suggest you visit his website at ronboatmanfabrications.com to see what other ideas he has had using iroc parts. Unless you have reached his level of expertise, you have no business criticizing how or what we used to accomplish this feat.
Re: 56 iroc
You act like he's the only person to ever think of using a Camaro unibody to build another car on. There's several companies using 4th gen Camaros (same floor pan) to build various vehicles. I've seen a late 60's ElCamino and several 1st gen Camaros grafted on. There's plenty of aftermarket support to build a good handling chassis from the stock frame. I don't see the point of hacking up a good car to end up with a mediocre handling old car.
I've looked at his web page and all I see are 2 other builds using 3rd gens and the Ranchero is yours as well?. As far as I can tell that's all he's done. He has good metal skills, but so do lots of people out there and I know 2 personally. If you like it then that's all that should matter.

Incredible work... As someone else pointed out, there is comical value in the reaction of those here who drive IROCs which are beat to hell, and are continually beat on by said owners.
I see people parting these cars all over this site, giving up on projects and starting over, as well as ruining perfectly good cars without taking any steps in a creative or fun direction.
Heck, I get yelled at, criticized and called names for for dropping 10k in suspension and drivetrain work on Sport Coupe, just because it is a sport coupe! But it is a car I am proud of, and very unique to me.
The third gen crowd is diverse, and there are bound to be quite a few bad apples.
I think I can safely say (and I bet your experience is the same) at any car show you go to, your work is inspiring and well received... Doesn't matter what keyboard warriors and IROC purists say.

Very nice job, kinda sucks it was an iroc and yellow, there are many other cars that could have been a good donor, but still a very nice custom car.

Yea, the tragedy of using a 'cookie cutter' car to save a 55 year old piece of true, one year design, American steel to let it proudly live on with new life.
The shame.

I bought the car in Mesa, AZ but found receipts from Illinois which explains the rust I found in the rear Qtr panels. The engine had been replaced and upgraded from a 305 to a 350 and there were new rotors and calipers on all 4 corners. It was a fun ride and made an excellent platform for the tri-five upgrade.

Well Mesa is not to far from me. I sold the car in 98 to a young kid. It was in mint condition then. Mine had the TPI in it. Well you did a awesome job! Sweet
