Forget pining over the Holden f-body wannabe. You should instead be pining over the Holden Ute, which is a modern-day pickup/passenger vehicle cross like Chevy and Ford used to make. You can see a photo of it at the Holden web site referenced above. Great looking vehicle, wonder what's under the hood?

The basic facts:

Picture #1: looks almost identical to the new Mustangs

Picture #2: looks like a rice patty

Picture #3: Can you say crysler?

Picture #4: I could live with this as long as they keep the 5.7 and RWD. I think it looks a little inbetween 60's trans am and 80's Camaro...

Anybody see the awesome Holden car they put up against some hopped-up Beemer in Car and Driver this month? It had a 400hp LS1 with a 6-speed...pretty much a Corvette, I guess. I think it was an RSX or something like that. It seems weird that GM RWD cars are thriving in Australia, but we can't even seem to keep the Camaro going here in the States.

Hah, this is quite humorus.
The LS1 engine is only in the SS Ute, which is like 25 grand American.
And as for RWD cars thriving in Australia, the only people that make large RWD cars are Ford and Holden and Holden are severely beating Ford in the large car market, the "Commodore" kind of like an Impala, large size family sedan with wagon options of which the ute (ute meants "utility" for those of you who don't know the Aussie slang) has the old buick 3.8l alloy block which has been doing the rounds in your cars for a long time now (ohh, I dunno, around 30 years) so no points for innovation there, the upmarket SS and "HSV enhanced" (HSV is the luxury/performance range of the Holden fleet - Holden Special Vehicles) was just an old Holden 308 (the Aussie version of a small block chev, just take away reliability, oil pressure and horsepower) carbie with a fuel injected manifold fitted....my dad drives around in a Holden HZ tonner (aussie slang for one tonne truck) with a 308 and it's a piece of crap
We were going to put a sbc in there but that's another story....talk about uninventive.
In fact up until the last 2 years of the model the only models to get the LS1 was the HSV GTS and the Senator, both very expensive cars...like 80 grand Australian...A HSV is a Commodore with fully upgraded brakes, suspension, LS1, T56, full leather interior and bodykit and various other miscellanous additions, but STILL a Commodore, STILL a FAMILY car...so that really puts it out of the running against a similarly priced second hand 99 WS6 Ram Air Trans Am...some of you guys might not classify F-body's are "sports cars" and only "sports coupe's" but damn, a Trans Am will annihilate a GTS any day of the week.
Oh yeah did I mention that you guys can get Targa top or convertible? Even our top of the line "sports Commodore's" don't have this....or a sunroof...only about 3 cars in out entire country's range have sunroof's and I think there's 2 convertible's at the moment, well, at least one.
You could get an almost new Corvette over here, a car that was designed to go fast, designed to have power, and designed to handle, and cost near to a Senator
And boy, you would get a lot more respect driving a Corvette than "a commodore with a bodykit and exhaust" because that's what people tend to say about them.
Commodore's here are like every 4th car going on along the road, every kid wants one and everyone's dad has one, everyone has a friend who has a fast one, they're just so popular.
But even when my father and I are driving around on the street in our cars, 82 Z28 and 87 Trans Am, with a combined value far less than half of a GTS' worth, and EVERY time we go out, we are asked about the car, what it is, where it came from, how much did it cost, and this guy is sitting there getting nothing, because at the end of the day his car is just a modified Commodore to the general public.
The monaro is a slightly different story, but this time the figures work more towards the american cars.
The monaro is going to have a sticker price of around, ohh at least 100K, close to 110K
Now for that price, you could import a BRAND NEW Corvette and convert it and most likely have change.
Well what can I say
You guys think we got it good for cars...man...I would KILL for a Ram-Air Trans Am or even like a 94 Formula
You guys don't know how lucky got you got it
A 82 Trans Am can fetch up to 15 grand in reasonable to good condition.
One day one of you guys has to come here with some old camaro's and stuff and restore them, you'd make thousands
Wow this got long all of a sudden....

Gib, Thanks for the info! It makes me feel much better that I'm not missing out on anything other than a overpriced 4 door. I know what I want in a new Fbody, I'm just not sure how anyone would package it. I do know it needs to be more people friendly, not because WE want it to, because the general public does. Ever read why the mustang out sells both Fbodys? If they reintroduce it, might as well make it sell enough to keep it around. But, I'm not sure how they will accomplish this and still keep that sceamin look. I just hope the price is within reach of an "average" guy like me. Oh, Gib thanks for making me remember how good I do have it, I payed $3000 for my wifes 87 TPI 5sp WS6 T/A that needed nothing but a wash.

When you guys say stuff like "I bought my WIFE's 87 TPI 5speed" it's unbelievable
Most guys third gen's are mothered and babied, rarely to leave the garage and you buy a WS6 for your wife? geez...things are too different

Good to get the "direct line" from a native Australian...thanx for the insight, Gib. But FYI, I went back and looked and the article in the mag was about the Holden HSV GTS R, which does have an LS1 as you mentioned.

gm can always mess up good things.. they've never ceased to do so. thinking no one would buy the 300horse 92 'special edition' camaro? HAH, good one, boys. i'd rather them end it now, however much that would suck, rather than try to design some stupid new car and the camaro sell even less, and on top of that have to live with a terrible name that it would get from the 5th gen

importsrsloths, I hate to tell you... but that car doesn't actually exist... I was trying to be funny. If you really want a notchback, you can get an aftermarket hatch replacement... but it looks pretty ghetto.
