Paint Job $$$?

The time has come to get a paint job for my 89 Firebird. There's some minor rust and some of the paint is faded. I have some money saved up but want to know how much I can expect to pay for a good job (no Maaco types). I'm hoping for between $2000 and $2500. Is this accurate?

It's really going to depend on how much prep work it takes to make the car straight, and what shop does it. If there is very little bodywork and rust repair you could probably get close to that cost.

You could get close to that price easily. Just do all the prep work you can do yourself, and this is less time they have to spend on making your perfect.

Thanks for replying guys. Prep work would be like fixing any dents myself, covering the tires and windows to protect against overspray, etc., right?

prep work would be sanding the body down for primer, and fixing the dents. i was quoted 1200-1500 for a base/clear PPG Black. my car had minor body work, and it was a color change so it was a lil more $$, but i decided to save my money and spend my time instead, in the end i think i came out about $2000 ahead.

Got my 92 painted two years ago for $3400.
This included stripping off all the GM paint
(what didn't peel off on it's own), removing/reinstalling the windshield, some minor bodywork, new side moldings and wet sanding/rubbing out PPG Base/clear in factory color.Seemed like a lot of money at the time, but it came out nice and I didn't do any of the prep.
