Scratches in windshield

Has anyone found a good way to get rid of the scratches the wipers can make in the glass? I dont want to have to replace it if I dont have to. Their not too deep.

I had a windshield repair shop polish/buff them out, but I'd think the job would be such that you could do it yourself.

Is there a speacial polish for it? I have access to high speed buffers and such. Maybee sand them out first?

First try without sanding. Only sand if buffing alone doesn't help. I'm about to try doing this with my driver side window, it has vertical scratches on the inside and outside. It's scratched pretty bad, so I may have to use sandpaper first (wet 2000 grit?).

I can't remember the grit, but I wetsanded the windshield of my old Firebird and it turned out ok. I can't imagine it'd get out anything deep, but for minor surface stuff it did really well.
