Keeping polished rims clean

A guy I work with asked me a question I never thought about and am also looking for an answer to...

Since I'm up in the part of the country that has to deal with that dreaded cold white stuff (snow) and the stuff that the state uses to deal with it (salt), how would I keep my wheels clean through the winter once they're polished? And yes, it's necessary to drive my car through the winter (well, once it's back in one piece again), since I don't have anything else .

:edit: Also forgot that I can't switch them out, either. The ARE's are the only set of rims I have for the Bird (were on the car when bought and haven't found a decent set of stock rims at a decent price).

a "GOOD" clearcoat on the entire wheel is the best you can do . good luck .

I think I may have forgotten to mention that I was looking to avoid the pitting common to the winter months. Is the best thing to do possibly just keep them clean as is possible during the winter (lots of car washes)?

Re: Keeping polished rims clean

it they are not clear coated, you should rinse them off daily if needed. I would also keep a good coat of wax on them. I'd say you'll have to rinse them off near daily, and wax them every other week or so in order to keep the salt from ruining them. I've seen guys who took their Harley Davidson's to bike week and rode them on the beach, then didnt realize they should rinse them off, the finish on the aluminum iwheels is destroyed in a matter of days.
