Nightshaded my tail lights pics inside

Decided to tint them out this weekend. Here's some pics. 3 coats of nightshade and 4 coats of duplicolor clear. I went with the idea of laying thick heavy coats to keep it glossy which just settled and died down to a flatter typical VHT look , so I took clear and applied heavy wet coats the key is to keep the clear wet looking without leaving drip marks same as if your painting a car.

Thanks, the two inch drop is extreme and the ride kinda sucks but the look is well worth it. Factory F-bodies look like trucks in comparison. I do get comments like "damn thats low" in person. This car is also daily driven in the spring/summer through rain or shine.

Re: Nightshaded my tail lights pics inside

ya i use to think my camaro was extremely low (I still think its still fairly low) (maybe its sinking springs?) but compared to some its an major diffrence from stock to a few inch's dropping. i think if i do lower it any it will just be an 1in drop.

Re: Nightshaded my tail lights pics inside

The only thing I did to prep these was wash them with dish soap and scrub them with the finest steel wool from home depot I actually used the same soapy water while I did this which dulls them out and makes for a good surface for paint. The idea to get it so glossy is to lay the clear kinda thick so it looks glossy the trick is to not get runs which was pretty easy but then again I have had practice.

I have yet to put any type of coating other then the nightshade or clear. I imagine when I do they will be even more glossy. They just look like dark factory tails in person and appear to be stock.

I tried that too with the same results. Ended up doing much the same as you did. 3-4 very light coats of VHT over the lenses followed by 3 thick coats of clear. Mine aren't a total black out as I wanted the colors of the lenses and the reflector to show through.

That looks almost exactly like mine.

I used 4 thin coats, 4 coats of clear then wetsanded with 1500 grit, then buffed them out with a foam wheel and some fine cut compound. I might be able to get some pics but the car hasn't been washed in years so the tails are the cleanest thing on it.

I also did the front side markers, they look pretty good on a dark car.

Re: Nightshaded my tail lights pics inside

Looks great!
So you used Duplicolor Clear Enamel?
You think that clear with hold up to a polishing agent and a wheel?
And you sprayed the outside right?
Did you do the center section as well?
Could you possibly post a pic at night with your brake lights on?
I'm curious to see how visible they are

Sorry for all the questions, i'm just thinking of doing this.

Yes not even half the can.

I don't see why not, mine didn't need it though. I have seen people use a polishing wheel on tremclad so it should be ok. It's hard as a rock now.

Yeah just have to wait till the weekend. I'll get a pic. They are still very visible when lights are on/signaling in the daytime.
