SP Spoiler. Rare?

A friend said that he had done a bit of research and found that a deck-lid spoiler is rare on a sport coupe. Is he full of BS? I was looking at the endless supply of crappy third-gens on the road these days, and it does seem to be only on the Zs. Any one know? (PS- Mines a pretty loaded 87)

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what spoiler you mean. The high F-40 style wing that came on 91-92 Z28s was never offered on an RS or Sport Coupe. The regular 82-90 Z28 3 piece spoiler is as common as they come, and it's very, very rare to find any model Camaro without that spoiler. The 3rd type, which is the most rare, is the low-rise spoiler that was only offered for a short time on 88 Sport Coupes. It was only as wide as the hatch, and stuck up a couple inches. It never really seemed to fit the lines of the car, which is why I imagine it didn't last for very long.

The early years of thirdgens it was fairly common to see an SC without any spoiler, mine included. So was no ground effects and 14 inch wheels on the early cars. Later all this became standard.

------------------
350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

Spoilers on the sport coupe became a standard item early in the '87 model year (early '87s without the spoiler got the '86 third brake light). The standardization of the spoiler was directly related to the government mandated brake light. Before that they were an option on the sport coupe clear back to '82. The vast majority of '82-'84 sport coupes were spoilerless. They didn't seem to start getting popular until the '85 model year, and became pretty common in '86 (at least this is the way I remember it living and driving them out on the west coast, no numbers to back it up).

I have the low rise spoiler on mine. That thing costs soooo much to replace!! Besides you can't clean the underside of it easily.
