Original paint?
I just bought a 89 gta with 37000 miles on it. It has some scratches on it. The previous owner said it is the original paint but he is not the original owner. How can I tell if it is the original paint?

Check the rubber gaskets between the mirrors and the doors, if they're still black with no paint on them, no guarantees, but chances are you still have original paint.

Re: Original paint?
u can check under the hood and all those places were usually cars dont get painted when a paintjob is done, look carefully for any missmatching colors along the fender lines that meet with the hood. Also check color codes, if the code matches the color on the car then chances are that its original paint, and do Al Hasse said check under the gaskets, seals etc.
Re: Original paint?
Stop by a body shop and have them use a magnetic paint thickness gauge. They can tell you hwo thick it was from the factory and how thick it is now.
