I am ordering a set for myself soon.

Because those are made to work with halogen bulbs, and you can "upgrade" to HID's although they're not made for true OEM D1 or D2 style projector HID bulbs. It won't look near as good as far as light output and cutoff as a D1 or D2 OEM style projector. Plus I think the halo on them looks cheesy, I just want a simple looking trim ring around mine.

The fact that they never show you what the cut off looks like against a flat wall with the HID's tells me that it is going to look like poo.

Because it is cheaper to do yourself & only for use for 2 of 4 headlights (no Hi/Low) for even a Camaro. And for those of us (not you or Blue) they won't work for single headlights:

"This is a single beam headlight system. This system eliminates the possibility for a high beam even when using a dual beam bulb or HID kit."

A true Hi/Low retrofit projector is not that hard nor expensive mod to do for Camaros & only a little more work for Firebirds (pop-ups).

Hmmm....interesting. There is a video of the lights being turned on...they look pretty damn nice. I suppose the 'Starr Lights' maybe a better fit.

Re: Weird 4x6 projector headlights

Anything will bright when a camera is aimed right at it. I am not going for the brightest thing available, instead I want the cleanest most crisp cut off with the light focused in one defined area...

If I were to tackle a true retro fit projector set up with a D1 or D2 projector, does it matter how far back in the fake H4 housing the projector sits? I was gonna pick up the aftermarket sealed beam housings since they're plastic not glass so I can cut off the back ends and fiberglass in the projectors but didn't know if there's a mathematical sweet spot on where to put the projector or a certain angle it needs to be set at?
No sweet spot because projectors are complete and unto themselves. They don't need to rely on the reflector portion of the outer h4 housing at all. You're just using that h4 housing to mount the projector cleanly. I'd put the projector eye as close to the front glass as possible (as long as it's not fluted) so it makes the whole assembly as compact as possible.

Re: Weird 4x6 projector headlights

Is it safe to assume the projector doesn't need to be angled down in the H4 housing? Not even slightly?

Re: Weird 4x6 projector headlights

Do you mean to not point at other drivers and such? Every retro I've done I try to mount as square to the lens as possible and then use the factory adjustments to aim. Haven't had a problem so far!

Their projectors have nasty dark spots.

Dunno, haven't seen them. I have a 'bird so I haven't bothered to look at any halo lights. But if they are the same style housing without a true projector inside? I'd say they'd be bad too.

Either get Sylvania Silverstars for a 100% direct plug-in or go all the way & do the real projector retrofit.

Re: Weird 4x6 projector headlights

Alright my light guys... i bought a pair of those crappy cheap e bay housings now on the flip side its a great platform to modify, first thing to do is get a hid housing from a projector lens unit already made to project light properly meaning find a junkyard car that has two projectors in a housing, so follow me here... where the open hole is on those crappy 4x6 housings to the rear of the light remove excess metal/alloy then remove the projection unit from the crashed car now to do this we need to find a proper housing i prefer either a subaru or mitsubishi (ie:3000gt) projector light housing we need to remove internals so, what i remember is that you can remove the single projection beam to mount into that crappy 4x6 unit so yank the cheap crap out of that 4X6 unit, now once we find the proper mounting for the rear of that i also think that a single sheet of aluminum to be fabricated to hold the housing to the rear of the light. (better yet let me finish my mod up and ill take pictures) you guys just follow ill show you all the modification once its completed this seems like too much to just slap up and post so ill let you guys follow after im done. any questions shoot me a message...
