spilled acetone on my tail light and i was wondering if i could sand this off and then buff it with eastwood plastic buffing compound ? what grit sand paper ?

 

On my 91 GTA, the red "PONTIAC" was fading.

I used 400 grit sand paper (VERY light pressure), then 1000 grit sand paper. Then used car wax with a buffer. Could not tell it was ever there!

Couple of years later I had a small accident damaging one of the lights. The body shop could not figure out why they could only get it with the PONTIAC on it!

 

Looks as if these taillights could use some TLC anyways.
As explained above.

I started with 600, then 800, followed by 1500.
I used a plastic polish compound on them used to remove haze from plastic convertible rear windows.

At the time I'm still considering a layer of clear to get a permanent wet look to my taillights however.
