Opinions on this hypothetical body modification:

Hey. I doodled this one day a few weeks ago at work when I was bored and had an idea. I posted it on nethirdgen.org a while ago, but it didn't get too many responses, so I thought I'd give it a shot here. It basically moves the license plate down into the bumper cover by using either a 3rdgen Firebird bumper or 4thgen F-body bumper cover (the 4th gen looks rounder, but I think it's an optical illusion and still think it would fit with very little modification). The section between the taillights (where it says "CAMARO") would be taken from a 4thgen and worked in. The spoiler was inspired by the convertable version (though someone compared it to the Daytona spoiler, it's not supposed to be quite as swoopy as a Daytona's. If you've seen a convertable, you know what I'm talking about). The ground effects are blended in with the body. The taillights would probably have to be completely fabricated. They're supposed to be clear-red, and the gridding is just there to show its contours, but could possibly be a visible detail. Tailpipes are 4thG Z28.
Let me know what you think.

Oh, and if you have some suggestions or ideas, post those too and I'll consider sketching it out.

I've gotta find my drawing I did the other day, I was thinking how the 4th gen firebird rear end would look designed for our cars...ya know where the rear bumper comes down on the sides of the exhaust so it looks like its made into the car amost. I'll post it if I find it

Nice, looks really clean and i think its a great idea, looks way better than the stock style, almost like a firebird that’s why i like the firebirds rear much better than the camaro's because the license plate is not right in the middle of the tail lights and doesn’t disturb it as much

WOW! You can draw, excellent! Wish I could draw that good. I think it would look awesome with some rims and make it a still picture not a motion picture.

I looked into this last night. a 4th gen panel won't work between the lights w/o some major mods. It is curved real good, and the Camaro part is longer than what will fit. I made up a template out of cardboard and it would look real good. The problem would essintaily come into play with the relocation of the license plate. Right behind the bumper cover is the honeycomb stuff. If a corrosponding section was cut out to make room for the plate, all is good. But what could we make the reccesed part out of? We have a company here in Lafayette that sells sheets of various thicknesses of plastic, but how would we bond it to the bumper cover? I have heard of plastic welding, but I have no clue how to do this, and a custom job like this at a body shop would be out of this world. Any ideas???

Yeah, I know how curved that piece is. That's why it's curved in the pic, and that's why the taillights are coorespondingly curved. The real problem is that it's much shorter vertically because that's where the split for the hatch is.

The bumper cover would be no problem, it should come right off of a thirdgen Firebird and onto a Camaro painlessly.

Oh, and thanks for the comments everyone.

You can buy plate pans that can be grafted in... they are made for "mini-truckers" who want to put their plate diagonal into the tailgate and stuff like that...

I think it would look really good
But only if it was done right....so I guess it would be similar to like 87 Trans-Am's huh?
If you had a really nice and low rear bumper with the exhaust pipe integrated into it...ohhh yeah it would look awesome

I did a little photoshop to the flamin red killer Z to kinda give a better idea of what it could look like. I didn't have time to add a firebird bumper, so I just etched it into the existing bumper, and obviously I just used the existing grid lights. I blacked out the reverse lights too, but they could easily be left or made to be red along with the rest of the lights. Let me know what you think, I'm seriously startin to think about this mod!

If you put a Firebird bumper on a Camaro, would the ground effects line up properly? Of course, that's assuming that you didn't blend the gfx into the bumper like Jza originally suggested.

i thought of the bumper swap a long time ago. only problem is the bumper says "PONTIAC"

something to cover up the plate could be easy enough to fab up.

I'm kind of thinking of putting some firebird GFX on from the front tire back then 91-92 camaro front nose so that way the gfx wouldn't need to be blended, it'll be happenin in the distant future if at all, but I'm gonna keep thinkin up ideas

I like it too. It reminds me of the 2nd gen camaro, they had the plate in the bumper. I hate having to flip mine down to unlock the hatch. The neon light makes it hard to get in there.

I've seen pics of 91-92? Convertible GTA's or T/A's w/ tail lights like that, but it says PONTIAC instead of CAMARO. (they look kicka$$) You might just want to replicate those tail lights w/ CAMARO instead of PONTIAC.

The center section isn't part of the taillights. It's a part of the body, similar to how the 4th gens are. (or would be if that mod existed).
