custom steering wheels?

who has custom wrapped steering wheels?

who has thought about it, but hasn't?

how much did you pay if you have one?

how much would you pay if you don't?

i'm trying to decide on what to do with my stock steering wheel, i don't like aftermarket wheels and want a different look.

My GTA wheel needs to be re-wrapped. I'm probably going to have the top section done in suede and the rest done in regular leather. If I like it, I may do my IROC wheel the same way instead of buying an aftermarket piece.

do you know a company that does this or are you attempting this yourself?

how much would you expect to pay for something like a custom wheel rap?

Custom wrapped leather stitched will run you between $150 and $200. Mine has a Grant GT 13" on it and I have the OEM wheel that I have thought of having custom wrapped also.

IMHO every thirdgen owner should go out and buy an aftermarket steering wheel. I havent yet, but its in the future plans. We have all been cursed with the ugliest steering wheels out of any car i have ever seen.

------------------
*1989 RS
*Red, Daytona Turbo fiberglass hood, chrome 16x8 IROC wheels
*355 CID
*TPI ported plenum, SLP siamesed runners, Edelbrock high flow intake
*SLP 1 and 3/4 headers with 3 inch catback
*Richmond 3.73, Auburn Posi
*Modded 700-R4, 2800 stall converter
*eibach pro kit and hotchkis sturt tower brace

I have to agree with you there. Even a cheap Billet or Boyds wheel from AutoZone would look better then the ugly, chipped paint wheel that came with my camaro!

I disagree, the one in my 91 is perfect; except that it's showing wear from 10 years of use. I think grant gt wheels are a nice alternative; but look like cheap arcade wheels.

if anyone knows where i can get it done for 140-200 for a professional job please let me know as around here a show job runs $350.

I resent that, I like my Grant steering wheel thank you very much. I got a 13inch black leather one(I think it was 13...) I really liked this other bada$$ wood one they had, but when I thought about street racing I decided to go with the soft leather one

Not that anyone has ever been busted for this, but 'technically' it is illegal to remove an airbag equiped steering wheel from a car that came that way from the factory as your '91 almost certainly did.

You're right the '90-'92 Camaro steering wheels look better than most after market pieces. However, the '82-'89 steering wheels are probably the ugliest factory wheels ever produced.

------------------
'91 Camaro RS - TBI 305 - medium garnet - '91-'92 Z28 wheels - leather - all power options (except power seat) - t-tops - Clarion head unit - Pioneer 4way 200watt 6x9s - Rockford Fosgate Punch amp and 2 Fosgate 12" subs - Edelbrock open element w/ K&N filter - Random Technology highflow cat - some free mods, more coming soon...

thank you for that point, i agree; i don't like the pre 90 steering wheel; so in that case i suppose a grant would be sufficent. sorry if i offended anyone.

my problem is i can buy a new one for 400 or have it recovered for 350, what to do.

o'well.

Like stated above, the RS steering wheels are fugly, but I like the Z28 wheels and all of the firebird styles. On my GTA I want to keep the steering wheel controls, so I've got no choice but to keep the stock wheel. I think it'll look and feel great with the new wrap though.

For the IROC, I'll probably wind up with a Momo Champion. I don't like the leather grant wheels. They look like wheels off of an expensive arcade game. For only a couple bucks more I can get the Momo wheel which I think is a great looking wheel.

I'm with Jim, the 82-89 Z28 and 3 spoke firebird steering wheels and all the airbag wheels are great just as they are, as long as they're in good shape. The base steering wheels on any thirdgen are crap, but still better than Grant pieces.
