Refs for good paint job?
Refs for good paint job?
I need a paint job w/clearcoat and a little bodywork for my '86 Camaro. Since it also needs a new engine, all I can afford is Earl Schieb or Maaco. Does anyone have any good references? (P.S. I hate Bondo! Who does good bodywork minus putty?)
Bodywork - putty = BIG $$$
Mine needs a bit of bodywork. Gonna attempt to do it myself and paint it myself. Never done it, but how hard can it be.

question for you why do you hate bondo?
do you know that all cars need bondo.
there is no suck thing as a perfectly straight piece of sheet metal. and bondo can be formed into perfectly straight.
if the body work is done right you will never ever see markings of bondo.
ok lil tip for everyone.
you know those show cars that always win awards and have the straightest panels on them.
those panels are stripped to bare metal then they have bondo applied from the front to the back. while the bondo is drying (still wet at this point)the body man cuts out the gap between the fender and the door and the door and the 1/4panel. thats right with a razor. then he sands it down perfectly to be 1/8" apart all the way around.
so what i am saying is that those cars that are worth 150,000-1,000,000 are almost all BONDO.
bondo is not bad. say you have a 69 camaro that needs new quarters and stuff. they have to put bondo over the weld after they grind it down otherwise you will be able to see it.
just some advice for people who are afraid of using bondo.
oh and i do work at a body shop.

Bondo is only bad if its applied too thick. Which in turn will crack after a short time.
When you get a paint job on car you'll have to expect to have bondo on it.
