Hey, Look, a Replica of my car!!
Hey, Look, a Replica of my car!!
Yeah, this kinda goes along with Chris' post about his IROC model. I picked this bad boy up on Ebay for really cheap because it was broken. As you'll see it was in pretty bad shape when I got it, the a-pillars on both sides were broken off, the drivers side fender and T-top frame was broken off, as was the passenger side rear 1/4 panel. I got that all fixed in about 30 minutes. Its a Revell 1/16th scale 87 GTA, headlights pop up, doors open, wheels roll, fronts steer, rear hatch opens, and hood comes up too of course. I bought Maui Blue touch up paint from GM, and it came out damn close to my car, in the pics it came out looking alot darker than it is in person..
Here are some pics of before, during and after. I still need to do some minor stuff to it, but you get the idea.
BEFORE
DURING (note 3 point STB)
1/25th Scale 91 Formula for scale....
All in all it took me I dont know HOW many hours, but it was worth it, Its cool to have a replica of my car sitting on my computer.
The Detailing part for this post would be that I think models really help someone get used to painting and prep type stuff, also, my dry and wet sanding skills are alot better now too

I remember hearing that the 1/16th kit comes with the early style rear bumper (82-84). Is that the case? Or does it have the 85-90 rear bumper? By the way, that looks really cool.

Does it have the radio controls on the steering wheel? I'm not sure if that was avalable in '87. This sucks, I'm going to have to buy one of these and I've seen how much they go for on E-Bay.
i really want one, really badly

Glad to see I'm not the only one who wetsands and polishes his models :-)
I am working on the 1/16 TA now as well, but I am letting it sit a while incase my "hardtop conversion" decides to crack through. It does have the 82-84 style bumper tho. I have to modify that. Also the front gfx to nose fit is horrible, I need to refit it big time. I also have the 1/8 IROC in the works...
Sorry that the image quality on most of these sucks, but here goes...
My 1/24 Monogram 1987 Trans Am (GTA kit)
My actual 1987 Trans Am
My model of my "soon to be '02 Z28" (needs to be polished yet, and the WS6 rims are temporary)
A small portion of my collection
