Tint hatch defrost
Tint hatch defrost
Ok im scraping this old tint of....pain in the bum. And i scraped a big section with a razor blade where the tint lines arent. Now with one stroke of the razor i made a big swath all the way down (up) the hatch and into the defrost lines. Ok the stuff that came off had a black line on it. But there is stil a orange line on the glass, it looks just the same as if you are looking at it from the top.
Did i ruin my defrost?

From the description yes, you damaged your defroster grid. the areas you scraped off will not work. Though I have seen "repair" suff you can brush on (comes with a template), to replace what you scraped off. It does work, used it on my winter car. The orange line is what held the actual defroster element on.

If you look thru the glass from the inside on a sunny day you should be able to tell where the conductive material is missing. Don't feel too bad about razor-ing it off, it would have peeled off with the tint too.

Actually, you can peel off the tint, and not ruin the defroster lines. I've never seen the filament come off with the tint. But there is no doubt that you have lost the defroster. That line is sometimes the part of the tint that didn't get fadded from the sun, but if the razor blade touched any lines, then they're toast. Try to use the fix it stuff, but find where you cut through the lines. Also, there may be more spots in the lines that are damaged.

Will it ruin the entire grid or just the part I scraped.
Also there is still lines there on the hatch in the part i scratched , it is orange , is it possible that the part i scraped off is just darker tint?

The orange stuff is like primer for paint. It helps the metal lines stay on the glass. If you put one scratch in a line, that line will not work. If you buy that fix it stuff, then you have to find where you scratched, and fix that part. The way that we tell if a line is damaged, is you take an Ohm meter and conect the leads to each side of the line. Then if there is a zero, that line is ok, if there is infinity, then that line is bad.
