I'm looking at also getting 555R's in 305/35/18, subscribing to see how they fit. How much you pick the pair up for?

$300 for the pair plus the labor of making some retro HID projectors for his Camaro.

I just ordered a set of metallic silver "CAMARO" decals for the brake calipers since I'm having them spiffed up with powder coat, should look pretty good when they're done.

I placed the order through OE Wheels LLC and with an LS1 Tech discount it was $689 with shipping, lugs, locks and keys, and valve stems. Not too bad I think. That's the staggered 17/18" set, which was actually on sale on top of that ($580 instead of $672).

Re: Picked out new wheels, coming soon

The UPS man came today but only delivered 3 of my wheels. Hopefully the 4th one shows up tomorrow...of course it had to be one of the 18's that is missing...

Check out the lip on these rears though.

Re: Picked out new wheels, coming soon

Any updates here? Im interested to see how they hold up over a little bit of time as well. I've been thinking of getting a set through OEWheels because of the prices they offer but hopefully that doesn't sacrifice 'durability'.

Re: Picked out new wheels, coming soon

88rsRestoration, I did alot of searching before I bought my C6 Z06 OEWheels. After searching I felt very confident in buying them.

I never put them on the car because I had fitment problems, which was due to my misunderstanding. I bought the wrong offset.

But yeah any updates? Ya kinda left us hanging

Re: Picked out new wheels, coming soon

That's because I haven't gotten my brake calipers back from the powdercoater yet....it's been like a month and they're not done yet. I just stopped by the shop tonight though and he's hoping to have them done within a week.

The tires are already mounted, and my transmission is almost finished being rebuilt, so i'm really wanting to get this thing back on the road asap

Keep in mind I've heard of GM wheels failing...

But there was a guy on frrax that had an oewheels C5 Z06 replica break at the spokes turning a corner. The car was hurt pretty bad from it....

http://www.blainefabrication.com/pro...IMG_4093-1.JPG

But he was putting out 700+hp on sticky tires... but just keep in mind if you're racing on sticky tires and putting out 700+ hp, maybe stick with either factory or high end aftermarket companies geared towards racing wheels. The safety margin with the oewheels is probably plenty for street, but probably not as much as with stock wheels... but you know, stuff happens. You never know. Plenty of people roll aruond on those replica wheels every day. And then you have all the import from china, assemble in the US $4k+ a set boutique wheels that fail at track days on street tires.... it's all a crapshoot in the end. I wouldnt have a problem running oewheels if I couldnt find some nice factory wheels cheaper at the time.

And those wheels look fantastic. They'll look really, raelly nice on the car.

Re: Picked out new wheels, coming soon

Finally got my brakes back today and they turned out great. I haven't mounted the wheels yet because I didn't have the brakes, and I didn't worry about the brakes yet because I haven't put the T56 back in yet, it's a sick cycle...

Re: Picked out new wheels, coming soon

haha

I'm planning on getting the transmission put back in tomorrow, would have done it last weekend but the pilot bearing gave me a fit and none of the pullers I rented worked. And I had to order the caliper rebuild kits on RockAuto.com and they won't be here till later next week.

Yea I made sure I bought the quantities I need. The hardware kits that come with the clips and bushings are for one whole axle, then the piston seals are for one caliper, so I had to get two hardware kits and four piston seal kits (front kits have two since they're dual piston calipers). The whole order was only like $36 with shipping, so not bad.

The blue is actually a translucent color over the top of a silver sparkle base. So it is metallic, it just didn't show up in the picture taken on my phone. I'll try to get a better picture this weekend, but they'll really pop behind my chrome wheels and on the car.

Yea a complete kit would be awesome...

The color doesn't match perfectly but it's OK. It's metallic and it changes shades in the sun and stuff like the paint on the car. I used to have them painted, not powdercoated, bright red with black carrier brackets. It looked ok but the paint doesn't hold up as well as powdercoat. I had the carrier brackets done in satin black, which will look good against the black "Camaro" decals.

I'm re-using my blanks from before. I had to get one turned because it developed some ridging but it should work out fine. I'm gonna rock them until they need replacing and then get some Hawk slotted rotors.

Thanks I am one step closer to mounting them, got my clutch and bellhousing put back in this evening. Gotta take baby steps with my limited free time.

I did get this sweet r1cer mod put on, only because it matches the car and the new brakes, and I like to represent small local shops.

it's VERY easy. There are some videos on youtube how to do it in case he never gets around to it, but I hope he does.

BTW those wheels and brakes look FANTASTIC. Who needs corvette brakes when you can have those?!

Anyway to rebuild the calipers, you basically just put a wooden block on the inside of the caliper (to cushion and also restrain them from flying across the shop) and shoot compressed air in through the banjo bolt hole. Pretty fun, actually! If only one comes out, push it back in a bit and hold it in place with something and do it again. And then the fun part is getting the seals on the piston while getting them set properly into the caliper. Still pretty easy but you may have to mess with it a bit. I had pistons flying across the shop the first time because I didnt have my block set up well, so just stay out of hte way... LOL.

I always recommend this because new inner and outer seals for the pistons for LS1 brakes are $10 a side. CHEEEEEP. Just clean out the inside of hte caliper, inspect the bores and pistons and you've got yourself a practically new caliper.

I think the piston seals I got were less than that, so ya they are really cheap.

I used brake fluid on the pressure seal and put some on the piston and in the cylinder.

Nick, what did you do with the little clips in the carrier and the one at the top center of the caliper?

Re: New wheels and candy blue powdercoated brake calipers

When I worked at Midas, we would blow out the pistons, wash them in the solvent parts washer, use fine sandpaper to clean out the build up in the caliper & on the piston. Wash them down with water & reassemble with just make sure you lube the inside of the caliper real good, the inner seal. Then lube up the piston good & slide on the the boot. Once in the groove lube the piston & push it in evenly into the caliper. Then i use a tool the same diameter as the boot & tap it into place & make sure its flush with inside on caliper.

Re: New wheels and candy blue powdercoated brake calipers

The calipers were finished up last night and the black abutment brackets look realllly good against the blue powder coat.

I did a test fit with one of the rear wheels to see if the bump stop is going to be an issue. I think it may rub just slightly if the suspension is completely unloaded (on a lift), so for right now I may not worry about it. And yes I know the tire is going the wrong direction...

im a big fan of center line wheels, they tend to look really good on old school muscle cars with the white lettering on the tires. maybe u should check them out, http://centerlinewheels.com/wheels_d...=117&sw_id=954

Re: New wheels and candy blue powdercoated brake calipers

I got my brakes put on, bled, and the wheels bolted down to test fit and make sure they don't rub anything. So far so good, I haven't torqued them down all the way and it's still in the air. I ran out of time today but might be able to get it on the ground tomorrow and take it for a spin.

Re: New wheels and candy blue powdercoated brake calipers

what are your rim widths and how close are your front and rear tire hights from each other? how does that 305 fit in the front of the rear fender well?

Fronts are 17x9.5" and the rears are 18x10.5".

The rear tires are just a hair taller than the fronts, I'll measure them for you sometime though. They're not as big as they look in the picture because the front tires create an optical illusion because they're much narrower than I should probably be running. They're a 245 instead of a 275 that you typically run with this wide of a wheel, so they are a little stretched out over the wheel.

I had to take a hammer to a couple spots on the passenger side rear wheel well because some of the stamped steel body was a little too close to the tire for comfort. I think the driver side will be fine but I'm going to keep a close eye on them.

Re: New wheels and candy blue powdercoated brake calipers, pics on pg 2

I know when we test fit my friends 19x10.5's w/tire my fender will need to be clearance atlest 1½ in to be comfortable. I sorta want to cut it, step it back and re weld in a panel so it'll REALLY be cleared when I mount my C-6
18x10.5's.

you have adj. pan rod ? to center axel unless it aready is centered ...

why did you go 245 vs 275 ?

it does give a optical illusion tho " my rear tire is slightly stretch also with a 285 it looks worse in pics then in person" lol
your rears are under a inch taller than your front
IIRC stock tire height is 25.6x

yes it has an adjustable pan hard and the rear is centered. and the 245's were on my old wheels when I bought them from someone else and the tread is still too good to throw away.

It has 2" spacers on the front. None on the rear-the 8.8 is 4th Gen width.
