Repaint and Smooth Front Grill Insert
What is the best way to repaint the front grill insert from a 1991 Z28, I was looking for a glossy finish? I also wanted to smooth the grill out and get rid of the red Chevy bow tie. I want it to be nice and not really half *** but at the same time I'm looking to do the work myself and not have to take it to a shop to get it painted.

Re: Repaint and Smooth Front Grill Insert
I was going to paint my bowtie from body color to black, but decided to plasti dip it to see if I like the look before I actually painted it.
I like the look of a black grille so here is my next step.
-Buy regular spray bomb primer
-Run to NAPA Automotive Paint center and buy a quart of black gloss
-Buy quart of clear
-Then spray everything on.
I own an Air compressor and Paint Gun so this isn't a hassle.
If you don't own a compressor you can do the same method but with regular spray paint. If you prep the paint right, spray paint will be fine for that small of an area.
If you want to get rid of the bowtie just sand it off. Start with a lower grid sand paper and work up to a fine grid, then wet sand it.

I sanded mine down with a palm sander. I used just a little body filler in case the sanding wasn't perfect, but I don't think it was necessary. I've since painted it a few times with spray cans. Satin, gloss, whatever.

do yourself a favor. buy an older style grille that has the camaro text on it, and do your alterations to that one. either save or sell the bowtie one. they are much more in demand, and I hate to see you screw one of those up
