Advice on Touching Up Old Paint
Advice on Touching Up Old Paint
Hey guys, the weather's nice and I've got some motivation, so I figure its time to touch up the paint on my 86 Camaro Z28. I've been using paintscratch.com, which says my paint code is 28/WA8743 "Black Sapphire Metallic", but I've never done any sort of paint or bodywork before and I have no idea where to start. From what searching has turned up it looks like I remove the wax, then sand to bare metal, then prime/paint/clearcoat in several thin layers, but I've still got only the faintest idea of how to do all that, if that is even the right way to do it. If anyone has a guide written, or some good advice, I'd love to hear it.
I'm not looking for perfection, I just want it to look alright and to stop any potential rust for a few years when I can afford to get a full paintjob.
The damage to the paint that I care about is all along the top of the car, several places along the hood, front fenders, and trunk are fading, with several grey spots, as well as very faded paint on the black metal of the t-tops. While these pictures are a few years old, they give a good idea as to what the damage is:

I can take some current pictures in a day or two if it'll help.
Assuming I'm on the right track, does this look like a good deal for $70 or would I be better off buying things more individually? http://www.paintscratch.com/neworder...ray-Paint-Kit/
