Hope this is the right thread for this.
Long story short is I'm losing a garage spot so the Z will be sitting outside for the forseeable future (like...next year and a half). I've put a load of work into the interior and the exterior, so a car cover is a must. I live in an area where we get rain, snow, heat, hail, the whole lot. Hail storms happen about once or twice a year here, on average.
I need a car cover that is both waterproof AND hail proof (I know at some point nothing will stop a baseball sized ball of ice, but I want the best I can get.)
Does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks

I am interested in this as well, as I have my car sitting outside, but its' not painted yet, but I would still like to protect it.
Only thing I can see preventing hail damage would be one of those tent-like car ports you can buy for like $300, and also putting a car cover on.

Do you live in a community or can you build small structures on your property?
If you can, why not build a car port? 6-4x4 posts and a roof will stop hail. Plus it would cost less than $300 for those tents. Decent sized hail would rip right through those.

I'm looking at this one...

I've seen the tent-type ones as well...but it's not sitting in my driveway, so I can't impose an eyesore like that on someone else LOL.

It's not going to be sitting on my property unfortunately, I'll be moving it to my inlaws driveway for the time being.Originally Posted by CharcoalBird

*edit* - I have no property, living in an apartment.

I have evo 4 car cover its nice, not as thick as I would like, I would not trust it against hail, even though they told me it would be ok.

I have a friend who went through the same thing with a G body he's been trying to sell. Unfortunately he didn't come up with a buyer and had to store it last winter. With last winter being BRUTAL in michigan... this worked flawlessly.
First he parked the car on a tarp as a moisture barrier and jacked it up on stands. Then he put on the car cover, followed by a moving blanket, followed by another tarp.
When we uncovered it in spring, it was still cleaner than my iroc after sitting in the garage uncovered. Food for thought.

Keep in mind a great cover won't be waterproof, and you don't want it to be. It will repel water to a point, but it has to breathe also. If it's truly water proof, then you'll have to worry about moisture coming up from the ground, getting trapped in the cover and rusting your car out from the bottom up. Mold and mildew would also be a huge problem.
