Re: March 2015 COTM **Voting**
Holy cow...what a lineup! I could easily vote for any one of these cars.

My first new car when I moved to Detroit was a '91 RS in Arctic white with the 16 wheels...looked just like KMK454s car.

I have been a sucker for that orchid color on FEENING4A92s car since it was introduced. That, and a 25th anniv. car to boot.

Speaking of which, Joel has a 25th anniv. car, in Arctic white! Oh man.

It was a 15th anniv. T/A at a Mecum auction, like The_Wraith has, that got me looking at 3rd gens. again. I missed out on that car, but I have a real soft spot for them.

And a TTA...the fastest of the 3rd gens., if I'm not mistaken. One of the cars on my very long bucket list.

Every one of these cars is very appealing to me in it's own right. I'm going to have to wait and hear more details on each, and give this some thought. Wish I had 5 votes!

Re: March 2015 COTM **Voting**
Thank you for the nomination. I know the concensus is "once you have seen a TTA, you have seen them all", but let me give you some insight on my particular car anyway.

The first time I saw one of these cars was in 2009 in Las Vegas at the Imperial Palace. I knew then that I wanted one. So I spent the next year or so looking at different ones, and learning everything I could about them.

I bought TTA#1515 in August 2010 in Columbus, Ohio. The car had 52k, and had been repainted because it originally was out of Texas and the PO told me the paint wasn't the greatest. It also had the front seats recovered, but not the rears.

I am really particular about detail, so I have done a lot of things to the car to make it nicer. For the interior, I have replaced the rear seat material with Hawks Katzskin, bought a recovered steering wheel, brand new OEM shift ****, and a dash pad cover.

In 2013, I had the engine bay painted, to spruce it up. I have also done a lot of engine detailing: new wire loom on a lot of the wires, new coolant tank heat sheild, and a "Turbo" hood insulator.

Re: March 2015 COTM **Voting**
Thanks for the nomination! Since the theme is "Special Editions," I'll focus on the B4C aspect:

RPO B4C was the "special service package" and was introduced for 91-92. The intent was for these cars to fill a fleet role, and most saw some form of service with a police department patrolling the highways.

Checking RPO B4C essentially gave you all of the RPO Z28 performance goodies with RS body work. B4C gave my car the following:

LB9 305TPI with T5 Manual - Most B4Cs were L98 autos
N10 - dual converter exhaust
J65 - four wheel discs
FE2 - suspension
GU6 and G80 - 3:42 posi-rear gear
C60 - air conditioning
KC4 - engine oil cooler
Y86 - RS appearance package
QLC - Good Year Gatorbacks in 245/50/16
FLT - just a "fleet" designation code

In addition to that, my car has:

UL5 - radio delete

My car DOES NOT have 1LE - about half of the 91 model B4Cs came with RPO 1LE, while all 92 B4Cs came with it. The only thing I am missing by not having RPO 1LE is the larger front brakes.

The car is very low option - it has the base interior, manual windows and seats, and no rear defrost. The radio delete cars still come with RPO U79 (4 speakers with wiring harness), so I was able to wire a hidden iPod hookup behind the radio delete panel.

My car was ordered by Runde Chevrolet in Illinois as dealer inventory. Email correspondence with the dealer revealed that they intentionally ordered it so as to sell it privately and circumvent the fleet sale requirement for RPO B4C. They were able to confirm this as the salesman (whose business card is still with the car) retired just before I emailed them (sometime in 2011-2012). The car changed private hands several times before I found it. The majority of all B4Cs saw hard work via police service, though a good number of them avoided this life and escaped into private hands.

The car currently has 23k miles and has the following documentation:

Window Sticker
B4C Brochure
91 Camaro Brochure
Original bill of sale
Original GM Extended Warranty Paperwork
Original Manual and business cards from sales team

I do drive it and enjoy it; it's hard not to. The car is fun to drive and surprisingly quick with the LB9 T5. So far, it's done the following:

Weekend cruiser
Car shows
US 60 1/8th mile passes (fun passes, took it easy)
Fair weather commuting (with the occasional unexpected rain storm!)
Three cross country moves
And unfortunately, it did see one day of snow (1 inch of light powder, immediately followed by a detailing!) when my daily driver was getting work done.
Currently, it's hibernating until spring...

The non-original parts are:

Tires (originals are in storage)
Bushings (originals dry-rotted)
Shocks (Bilstein)
Flowmaster muffler (original in storage)
iPod AUX-in hidden under dash and connected to factory speakers

Here are some pictures... it photographs better than it actually looks. The original paint does have some chips and dings, and like most 80s/90s cars with plastic parts, the plastic components are fading differently than the steel body (yellowing). Also, the white paint on the wheels is extremely difficult to keep clean!

Here it is with my 78 Silverado (49k miles):

Window sticker - note how few options are on it - all business!

Re: March 2015 COTM **Voting**
The lastest improvement I have done is refinishing the wheels. I worked on this late 2013-early 2014. I stripped the clear and wet sanded the aluminum. I had my painter redo the gold. I refinished 6 rims (4 fronts and 2 rears), as my plan was to run 4 fronts on the car. I did a complete set though, in case I didnt like the look. Anyway it worked out and I am running 4 fronts with Firestone Indy Wide Ovals 245/50/16's.

I will also mention, my engine is stock appearing, but has a few mods. I have 42lb injectors, a ta-49 turbo, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, non stock chip, scanmaster, and a boost guage on the pillar.

The only thing I have planned for the future is to one day "fix" the body side molding. Those of you will a sharp eye will notice it is about 1/2 inch too low in location. It was like that when I bought the car, doesn't bother me too much.

Re: March 2015 COTM **Voting**
Appreciate the Nomination! The car is away for the winter and I never got many good interior shots or engine bay the previous season (spent last season toying with a Vette).

The Idea with this car is to do mods that are 100% reversible and nothing to take away from it being factory looking. I have saved all factory parts that have been swapped. I am also trying to find factory odds and ends like the proper white steering wheel and shifter, other then that everything else for the most part is from 1984 including all paint and decals.

Only mods are:

2" drop
Redraif flushmount headlight swap
Magnaflow Catback
White Face gauges + speedo swap
Wonderbar add on
Black carpet until I find good carpet the correct color
Front and rear clear markers (some pics show originals before I made new ones)

i have owned 13 cars in my life. 4 of which could be classified as daily drivers. the other 9 have been toys or projects that never got off the ground. four of the nine toys and projects include a 4th Gen Camaro, a '72 Nova, a '68 Mustang, and an '89 Mustang. the other 5 have been Pontiac Firebirds (a 1st Gen, and four 3rd Gens). i currently own three Pontiacs (the 1st Gen and two 3rd Gens). so, when i say that i'm a Pontiac Guy, i think you'll agree.

Now i am going to ask you guys to hear me out, because my intent is not to bring down the fun of this thread (which is going smashingly, btw - love to see a tight race like this), but this is something that i have said, and i think needs to be said again from time to time. No - us Pontiac guys do not need to stick together for the purpose of COTM. and No - us Chevy guys don't need to do stick together for COTM purposes either.

For those who may not be aware, automotive and performance publications, from time to time source TGO COTM winners (visible from Home Page) for potential Third Gen feature cars.

tribal politics of any kind (Chevy, Pontiac, state, region, association) in the end, wind up being bad for COTM and bad for the Third Gen Community.

again, i'm not saying that preference doesn't or shouldn't play into the voting. this month its all about preference. RS body style, or Z28 body style. No stripes, orange stripes, purple with silver stripes. TTA. older body style TA. and that doesn't even scratch the surface of individual merit. none of these preferences that may affect your vote are bad for the program. however, entering the vote with the mindset of Team This or That is bad for the program.

and just to be clear, 0.0 issue with any of the nominees or their cars. just a reminder that we should all make an effort to leave tribal politics out of our thinking when we vote in COTM.

thanks for reading.

now back to your regularly scheduled programing.

I think the fact that Joel voted for Kymee is a perfect example of Linson's statement to the extreme. Not only did he not vote for a chevy, he didn't vote for his own. Pretty selfless act if you ask me.

i dunno Bob. nothing wrong with commentary IMO. besides, the Voting thread is where nominees must post their pics and tech.

there is just a difference between thinking and saying "there's just something about a Formula that makes me hard," and thinking and saying "i voted for [whomever] because he's from six towns over. us North Dakota guys gotta stick together."

it has and continues to come up. so when i saw a post that illustrated that mindset, i pointed it out as an opportunity to remind everyone that tribal politics (Chevy/Pontiac/state/region/association) are not necessarily conducive to the integrity of COTM.

now, it seems i've hijacked my own thread.

Had the cash, but went ttop for my first 92 z28 in 99, and my 25th anni z28 vert, but part ofme kix myself everyday for missing out on the dps package twice.
