All Classics Welcome

Alright guys, lets see some of those classic 3rd gens, i want to see everything, the V6, the V8, in the uncommon V4, the restored, the everyday drivers, the rust buckets, and even the rice burning 3rd gens

Take a look at my everyday driving bone stock 1984 F41 Camaro with a 2.8L V6 on my page in my albums, or on my other thread

Banks are splayed at a 0 degree angle on the V4.

I think he's alluding to the fact that the iron duke was an I-4, not a V4

An I-4 is typical of what one sees on modern day 4 cylinder engines.
Subaru is a modern day well known exception with their 'horizontally opposed' 4 cylinder engine called the Boxer. Do some Wiki'ing. I tried to put links, but no luck.

I've heard about the iron duke, but why was it given that name and what's so special about it?

Putting thread back on topic? Sorta kinda??

Re: All Classics Welcome

To go back off topic, why does the Appearance and detailing section always post picture threads and not focus on appearance and detailing?

Well, it was an iron block, so that part is simple but I don't know where the 'duke' came from. It's 'special' because it was the smallest and lowest horsepower motor ever to be dropped into an F-body. It was pretty terrible lol. it was dependable though, oddly enough (or so I hear).

No power, but it wouldn't die. That's why its special, its reputation for reliability.

Re: All Classics Welcome

Hard to say. Got the car in really rough condition for $2k. Did another grand in repairs. The wheels and tires were about $1500. I've got about $2200 into the air ride system. If i had to guess im cresting the $7k mark by now. Shes no where near done. Still needs paint, audio, subframe connectors, and somewhere in the future an LSX swap... Here's to dreaming.

I think because when we work on appearance and detailing the best way to show that appearance is through photography

here are some of mine just for fun
they are just pics of my 86TA i used to own

I'm guessing it's because there's no good "General" forum category for basically finished cars. "Body" is for body repair.

I had one 2nd hand when I was young, except it was in an X-Body. Drove it until 140,000 miles before I sold it. Ran it hot once when the waterpump v-belt snapped on the highway coming home from work, but no apparent engine damage done. Never had a problem with the engine. If I had known about Seafoam back then, I would have cleaned the carbon sludge out of the engine so I didn't need to use high octane gas to get all 98 hp out of it.

I thought I was the only one who noticed that! I never said anything because I thought it was just me. This section is mostly picture threads and COTM only now. I honestly go to AutoGeek or Meguiars online sites for detailing/paint correction. In the last few years this auto Detailing and Appearance has become about as useful as spam mail...... "Post your (insert color here) Firebird/Camaro," "Post your rear window louver" (are you serious?!), "Parking Lot Paparazzi" (which should have been deleted after the second post since it's no more than take a random picture of horrible quality from 30 feet away of some dilapidated thirdgen), Random pics from random car show and lets not forget the immortal "I went out driving and took pics of my car" thread.

Re: All Classics Welcome

Thank you for sharing, but its about the appearance and detailing section, not the only detailing or helping protect your appearance section. Appearance means appearance how your car looks, these threads are to show off the APPEARANCE of your car. which by the way is the title of this section where it says "APPEARANCE" and detailing. Thank you anyways.

Hahahahaha! Your argument is so worthless and you don't even know it!
If you want to post a bunch of pictures of your car to "show off how it looks" than you post in the section or should I say sections that were created for that. The members Camaros/members Firebird section or the garage section. Those are the sections that are for pictures of your car and the appearance and detailing section is for tips, how to and sharing knowledge for making a car's whatever look good.
