I remember talk a couple years back of a guy making real carbon fiber center grilles for the 'Maros, but the price I saw steered me away quick. Figured some vinyl wrap might make a good alternative.
I've used some 3M Carbon Fiber vinyl in various places on my Z28 lately, and with a sizeable chunk left over I decided to try and wrap the center part of the grille. Turned out . . . not bad. Still have a lot of work to do and get that Bowtie back to red, but we'll see if it holds up over time. I wanted to do the whole piece, but I think that sort of challenge it outside my skillset, so the center part will have to do. Prior to the wrap, I had the originally red grille Plasti-dipped black for the last 2 1/2 years, and that stuff held up VERY well.
(Sorry I just ripped it from my Instagram)
Yesterday with the Plasti-dip still on
Originally when I bought it:
And when I removed the Plasti-dip, it took the original red paint off with it! No complaints here, because I wanted it black.
