How much should i look to spend???
i recently found a 1989 Iroc -z camaro for sale nearby, the body is in good condition from what i can tell, the only rust i found after a quick look over was a 2x2 pacch of rust on the front left quarter panel/doorskin ( i dont remember the exact location) and it was rusted thru a bit where the quarterpanel bolts onto the wheelwell (the lip or wahtever) the interior was very nice , only noticing to rips on the driver seat only about 4-5 inches long on the edge of the seat, its the 305, tpi of course, and i am assuming it runs, i only wacked around the car and checked it out with my father , could you give me a rough estimate? oh i forgot to mention its in minnesota , if you know what kinda weather we get here...

You should buy an auto shopper and see what they are going for in there. I live in Minnesota, so I know what you are talking about with the rust, make sure it isn't too bad underneath.
k thanks , yeah im gonna blue book it to , i was thinkin 2 grand if its in good shape , maybe i can wheel and deal this sucker , i c your in delano , very cool , maybe if something ever goes my way and i do get a car , we can hook up or something , i have an aunt and uncle who just moved to delano....
unless its the powerfull 305 (forget the engine code) with the 5 speed, i would say save your money and wait for a 350. i bought a 89 rs with the weak 305 over 6 years ago and have regretted the decesion since then. Its just not worth fixing up IMO. Wait for a 5.7ltr!!!
well i dont know what engine its got
but its got the 5 speed , i saw that , does that mean it has the tpi and not the efi ( i think the tpi is the more powerful one ) but i was thinking about chucking the 305 as soon as i got money and throwing in a stroked rebuilt 350(383) would the suspension hold that?? or would i have to beef that up....

The TPI is an EFI, there are two EFI's that were made, TBI, and TPI. The TPI was made more for the Z28's, and the TBI more for the RS, thats what I have. If you could get it for cheap than get it and update it to 350, but if it isn't all that good of a deal and you are planning on getting a 350 anyways, hold out for a 5.7
I know some people from Hudson too. Cool that there is someone on here from my area. I thought no one wanted anything to do with third gens because of the winters here.

yeah thanks, well i want a 350 , but if it was my choice, i wouldnt go 5.7 fuel injected i would get a old 350 rebuild it maybe bore it 30 over and thro in a 400 crank , so its a 383 then top it off with a edelbrock intake and a 750 double pumper holley and a crane , comp or isky cam , which ever one makes it thump really nice

yeah i heard somewhere like theres only a 10 hp diff or something , they arent that far apart , just a mind set i guess, the engines stock back then for a sports car sound kinda weak , i mean between 160-230hp? or something like that , i mean if i were to get a 3rd gen and i had the money id atleast want 300hp pushin that light car , now thats gettin somewhere, no offense to anyone cus i love the 3rd gens but the motors are weak in my opinion specially because they were subjected to early attempts at fuel injection and autos with torque convertors , go with a 5 speed and a tuned 350 then it becomes a sports car.....anyone agree?? prob not , so bring on the *** chewing

Well, I don't agree. First a manual does not make a sport car... I do not consider the L98 a weak motor. Do you consider the LT1 a weak motor? The run almost the same in the quater with maybe 1-2mph trap speed higher. Mine ran a 97... seen most lt1s run 98-100. So I'd say it's pretty close. There is a saying... it's something like this. Horsepower sells a car, torque pushes the car.
Sort of like people bragging about a civic having 180hp... yet it has around 100 tq.
I would go with a 350 if I was you... if you have to have a five speed, get the tpi 305 version. Those run pretty close to the L98

i dont think a 5 speed makes a sport car at all i just think its a neat extra to a sports car , i was talking more bout the 3rd gen v-8s and how they were very weak compared to like 1st gens and nowadays , i realize its partly because of emissions and such but a first gen compared to a 3rd gen engine , theres a big diff in hp/torque know what i mean
It's an ongoing argument, but none of the above makes an F-Body a sports car. But they're usually too weak to be considered a muscle car. So what are they?
Anyway, personally I wouldn't spend more than $5k on any f-body (short of TTAs or an ultra-rare model).
