here it goes, my lesson on smoking auto tran tires. At a dead stop in gear, hold the brake down pretty good and slowly start to open throttle with the brake still down until your tires break loose. Now i have a question for anyone who can help, what effects can power braking have on your car? One mare thing, if you have decent power, put it in reverse and slam the gas from dead stop, reverse is very low and you should atleast peel, probably not smoke though.

Here's how I smoke my tires:
Step 1. Anything over 1/2-3/4 throttle in first or second under 20 mph.
Step 2. Roast away....
You can't spin your tires without brake tourqing it?
Even my LG4 could smoke up the tires just by stomping it in first.

Reverse will smoke ( enough to get in the car with windows down ), even with a TBI car, just make sure nothing is behind you. Power braking works great too, just don't hold after the tires start spinning for very long, tough on trannies, murder on brakes.

I find a nice empty parking lot in the dead of winter and start having fun..haha..well when i decide to take the car out in the snow anyways. But when the ground is dry I just drop the car into 1st and nail the gas. It will usually get me sideways up a road then I'll hit second and start going sideways in the opposite direction then when i shift it into drive it will start to straighten out for the most part. G O D I love HP...but you don't even need alot of power my 87 SC carbed 305 could light em up if you drove it like you hated it.
For me its a very simple process :-)
1. Come to complete stop.
2. Put car into Drive position
3. Push gas pedal
4. Smoke tires down the street :-)
And yes, I do have an auto.. th350 tranny with med stall and shift kit. with B&M megashifter.. I dont need to power brake or anything.. for me I just push the gas pedal down a little bit and off I go, with the nice white smoke behind me ...

1989 305 TBI
+Posi
+2.79 ratio
+245/50/ZR16 Toyo Proxe tires

= No Burnout
Anybody else have a 305 with the same items listed above. Without power braking or a line lock it aint gonna happen. Its that simple. They will brake loose but nothing crazy enough to even come remotely close to a burnout.

just bring some water with u into a parking lot and pour it on the ground by your rear tires in kind of a big poudle, 2-3 gallons will work, then back on to the water, depress brake, slowly open up your throttle and then smash it, let go of brake, and u got lots of smoke
also wait till it rains and go out and spin broties in parking lots, its not real hard on your car and it will smoke em good

look for a soft pavement
and let the tires rip....
ques is ... when u hold ur brakes .. and accel. does it really spin tires... ive never done that.. cos i always thought itll mess up teh torque conevrter unless it was built for it?

I just put the pedal to the metal, dont you all?.. If u have a manual gearbox like I do, it takes some practice to shift to second gear while u brake... But you sure gets smoke when doing a burnout with tires doing 60 mph
ive blown up my rear wheel cylinders to the point where i had no rear brakes :-) .. destroyed 4 or 5 tranny mounts.. and gone thru so many tires i cant member...
in short... it costs lots if u over do it .. but its fun to do everyonce in a while...

The sixes will smoke 'em if nuetral slammed, my buddy does it all the time, his Firebird is the only car I've ever seen withstand that kind of abuse. We did a side by side burnout and he made more smoke than my 305 ( but I don't beat on my car ).
His Firebird is stock, dead stock 3.1 auto. He runs it up in neutral ( to like redline
) then drops it into drive. Most people car this a neutral drop but SLAM is more correct, 'cuz that what it does to all the drivetrain parts.
) then drops it into drive. Most people car this a neutral drop but SLAM is more correct, 'cuz that what it does to all the drivetrain parts. all you have to do is put your left foot on the brake and your right foot on your gas. rev it up to about 3000rpm and just sit there till you can't see anymore :-) and yes your 305 should be able to do it, you might have to rev up to about 4000rpm to break them loose then just back off to about 3000. you can do a break stand with a 4 cyl. car if it is RWD and not loaded full of cr@p. you'll get the hang of it once you do it a couple times! get some pics and post em too!
Heres what I do, as you can see from my SIG, I'm running 305 TBI slightly modded, anywayz,
Dump bleach all over rear tires. Then Hold down on break and push hard on gas pedal and let back wheels break loos and spin those suckers really fast.
If you want to spin smoke from a rolling start in a trany, i do this in the morning,
I back out and let the car roll in revrese and shift to drive really fast and floor it while the car is still rolling backwards, this always creates a peel out.
Juss my 2 cents

I do that all the time.....well not all the time in the convertable....use the brake....then punch the gas and back off the brake untill you start moving and just put a little more pressure on it....nice happy balance.
all i have is a K&N... other than that its a stock 3.1 auto.. tis piece of cake.. i beat stang gt in a contest once... but i think that was jus cus he was an idiot.... or maybe i was cus i was willing to hold it longer and risk breakin ****
anyways... i think neutral drop is more correct.. cus when u do it... u drop ur tranny ... ive done it twice by accident and both times i blew my tranny mount... so doin that roll back in reverse and then put in drive and slam gas.. is bad news...
but then again some cars can take abuse.. like my 76 Monte Carlo w/ a 305... i used to nuetral drop the heck out of that car.. and it never got mad at me and broke somtin.. course i dont think there was anything in it that wasnt made of pure steel
i would defenitly suggest getting a poly urethane tranny mount... its been 1000 times stronger and seems to make things a lil smoother... might also be wishful thinking ... but i havent had to change it for going on a year now... which is pretty good since i was changin em like every 6 months..

My friend has a 5 speed and this summer he has gone through 4 sets of tires and his stock+ a performance clutch ruined. He doesn't have a line-lock just pops the clutch at high rpm. if you rub your hand on his car you can see rubber splattered all over the body. Here's what we have done plus more all around his community, BTW his community = NO COPS!!!
sorry for the bad pics you can't even see the non- pitch balack burnouts. some of these places you can peel the rubber of the road with your hand.!
This is where my friend blew his motor this burn mark started at the bottom of the hill!!!. A way you could burn out an auto is to find a hill wit no cars. Put the car in drive on top of the hill and let it roll back when you are allmost at the bottom slam the gas and this will make j shaped burnouts, that are pitch black!

If you guys can't power brake with 305s you need a tune up. I can melt the tires off of my 3.1 v6. I had to buy new 17s because of this fun and I still melt them. It will get into 2nd gear if I let it go with the brake on. My new GTA will melt them too but it has a 350tpi

The tires on my GTA would break loose at 2000rpm, and i could smoke up the whole street, gunning it in reverse would also smoke up the street.
My uncle had a 1985 Firebird with a 2.8 L auto and about 150,000 miles, he was able to light em up any time.

All i got to say is that if you guys with a 305 cant power barke it then i feel sorry for ya. I could get hella smoke from my 88 and it had a 2.8 that had a rod knocking and tranny was ****. And i never once blew the motor kinda pisses me off. But now i have a hopped up 406 and a power brake wont be necsseary just slam on the gas and watch the smoke roll off the tires

my 3.1 will smoke its tire yes one tire
limited slip sucks sometimes huh
just putting it in drive and not overdrive makes a huge differance
but for a lot of smoke power brakeing works
to do less damage ease on to the gas dont just romp on it
why dose it also seem that when when i go from reverse and in throw it in drive it spins both tires
its weird like some times its posi lol

This has got to be one of the more pathetic threads I have seen here!
How do you roast tires? It's easy, put car in drive and put foot through floor!!

Man is it really that hard? my 3.1 sh*t-six will vaporize the tires in first gear and usually still make the back jump out a bit in 2nd. hell even my taurus will lay a pretty good wheel just by slamming the gas.
i guess its all in the gearing
