My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
So here is my newest addition, 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,500 miles I recently picked up from the original owner.
It's somewhat of a barn find, he had it sitting in a climate controlled out building for many years. I got the original
invoice and window sticker, etc. All original except for tires and battery. It has the factory CD radio option.
Nothing special here, just your run of the mill Camaro RS 305 TBI but the 5 speed
makes it fun to drive. It rides drives like a brand new car. I may be dropping the 305 out to put in a ZZ6 crate motor, along with
some suspension work, lowering it, etc....I think it would make for a really fun driver.
So my question for those that take the time to look and read this is.......What wheels should I put on it?
I gotta get rid of these 15 incher's.....LOL, I'm thinking maybe the new Hawks 17 inch IROC repo's or maybe R15 repo's ?? or even Hawks 17 inch GTA mesh (black or gold ??) ......your thoughts ????

Sweet addition! Looking at your car, all I can picture is how evil 427seven's GTA looks with that stance and wheel set up against the grey. I think those wheels or the black Hawks GTA's would totally transform your car

Thanks !! I agree, and I have a brand new still in the box set of Hawks black GTA's sitting on the shelf in the garage AND new 275/40/17 conti tires.
Just not sure if those or something else would look best ....thanks for the input !!
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
There was a GTA for sale a little while back with 17in torque thrust's and I though it looked really good. I certainly can't imagine these would look worse
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
Great car man! Those 2nd gen wheels would look great on it! It's so nice, that I'd kinda hate to see an engine change, though..... I just really, really appreciate clean, low mile survivors.

HA!!!......you know me..... I'm working my way thru ALL the third gen models.....
I still have not owned a IROC Z......YET
Yes, you should have bought my GTA.
I speak with the new owner from time to time and he is enjoying the car.

Hi there,
I agree with everyone about the black GTA wheels. Especially if you already have them, go for it. Did you ever see them on the 1992 special heritage prototype car GM did back in the day? They were testing the 6-speed drivetrain, and mounted those wheels on it. Way too cool. http://testdrivejunkie.com/1992-chev...pe-test-drive/
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
I like the car and the idea Biz. I think this is a great candidate for a original look on the outside and inside but some power under the hood. I like those 2nd gen rims with a lowering kit and maybe black window tint...sweet! You may need to swap out the T-5 for a T-56 to hold the horses you want.

Thanks! Yes, I've seen that car before, too bad they never put it into production !!

Thanks Vinny, nothing radical, just a nice honest 350 HP set up....I think the 5 speed would be fine with that as I would not be racing it.
Just wanting a fun driver....that "looks" all stock
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
I like the idea of the black GTA wheels a lot..
I don’t see the RS’s ever being big ticket cars so as long as you keep the original motor, a swap is a pretty fun thing to do!
Probably smart to start with a clean, low mile RS to modify.. I’d argue with certain upgrades done seamlessly, if the car is turnkey and appears flawless and original in appearance it is possible to sell for more than a typical RS.. You’d still lose money on the build but the car value would be fine..
For someone that went through three T-5s back in the day, you might want to think about either having someone upgrade the T-5 or do a T56 swap.. You’d be surprised how even with a brand new T-5 once you put a little more power in front of it, just some good, fun pulls and 2nd and 3rd gear chirps will get you some funky noises coming from the gear box..
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
I'm still stumbling around this sit finding all sorts of stuff, didn't see this thread till this morning. Love the car, and the color of course, I wanna get a Camaro like that for my next project. I really like the picture of the 2nd gen repo's on the yellow car, I've always liked the rally style wheel. Great find!
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
WOW, NICELY DONE! Would you mind a few close ups of: Radiator Cap, Upper Radiator Hose, little heater hose closest to driver side, and heater fan box wiring. Wanting to verify I didn't switch these things out in the past. The heater hose may not be same since its not a TPI?? I think I must have the worst engine bay paint treatment ever done in the history of the factory. must have been painted on hangover Monday! Not seeing an ounce of factory undercoating over spray or primer bleeding thru.
Now go get that lift and give us some underbelly shots !!!
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
zz6 with the H.O. dual snorkel....heck I say keep the 15's!!!!!!!! ...but those second gen repops would certainly be rare. I've never seen em on a thirdgen other than that yellow marketing photo.

If you could throw in a good closeup of that belt routing decal, that would be nice too.

Thanks Vinny, thats what I'm thinking as well, but I know a lot of guys are going to raz me about putting Pontiac wheels
on a Camaro.....I'm still on the fence
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
Any time Biz.
I am partial to Vette wheels myself. I know they are probably over done on our Canaros but I must say that is one of the 1st compliments I get on the car, my Vette wheels.

I agree, your car looks great with those wheels.....what size spacers are you using and what is your wheel BS measurement?
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
Thanks
I use 2" in the front and 2.5" in the rear, 18" x 8.5" front and 19" x 10.5" rear.. Not sure of the back spacing, they are C6 from I think 2005.
Re: My latest addition - 1991 RS T-top 5 speed with 17,000 miles
I'd run the 17" Camaro SS style wheel. Classic industries has them. It'd stay true to the chey roots rather than the Pontiac wheel..... They'd be killer on your car in 17"x9" with a 275/40/17 tire!
