Need Help Fast! (Should I buy this Camaro thread)
So I'm driving past a dealership that is moving to a new location and when I peered into their back lot I saw a Black IROC and I thought ehh I'll stop by for grins and take a look. What I found is a 1986 IROC Black with Gold stripes and lettering with T-Tops. The body is slightly rough it needs a Drivers door but the rest is in good shape it just has the typical fading of the paint. The interior is in decent shape it could use new deck carpeting and consle lid and a drivers seat recovered but then it'd look perfect. Now here's the toough part. The guy I spoke to said it doesn't run and that he thinks the engines dead (305 TPI). No Problem I've done engine swaps in about 4 3rdgens so I'm ok with that but I figured I've delve a little more into the deal and so I spoke to the head mechanic and he said he had not had a chance to look at it real hard but he thought it was probly just a fuel delivery problem where he didn't know yet. The sales manager for the store then come up and says don't waste your time cause it's not for sale and it's going to be wholesaled. I told him I didn't care that it didn't run and so whats your price. He said he'd take 2K for it, now I know thats a little steep I told him I'd think about it and I asked him if he'd come down on the price and he said he might so knwo here I am talking to you fine folks. I have until Monday when he's going to load it up to take to an auction. What do you think? I was thinking that if he'd take $1,200 I'd jump on it. any comments on this???
Oh and by the way I'm not looking to keep this thing, I'm mearly looking to clean it up a bit and then resell it for profit after I get it running!

Its the last of the IROCs and looks like it has the 1LE package too. I kind of wish this was around when I was looking for a car.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that this is a dealership you're dealing with. They always sell their cars for top dollar, which is why they're asking $2,000 for a car that doesn't run...
Chances are, it's a minor engine problem that can be solved for under $200, so you really are getting a decent deal from the sound of it (again, it's a dealership). Worst case is the engine is frozen from sitting for years... in which case, the deal is garbage.
Good luck.

Well, since I bought my 88 IROC back in June for $400, and it sounds like almost exactly the same condition as mine was, I'd say try maybe $800-1000. Mine was just a fuel pump to get it running. The reason I am suggesting double what I paid is that the car you are looking at has TPI, while mine is a lowly L03. You can always go higher on your offer if you really think it is worth it.
