This is my old 1987 GTA that I sold September 2018 for $10,500
The new owner put less than 500 miles on it and only did a couple minor things to the car in the time he owned it.
It's for sale at Streetside Classics in Atlanta for $23,995
Is it just me, or is that driver fender emblem crooked? That was a sweet car though, I think you need to find yourself back in the Firebird game, and I know just the white Formula

Just cant get myself to do the 91-92 Formula's.....if I find a low mile 88-90 Formula I'd go for it, would also consider the right GTA as well.
That's a gorgeous GTA, but without the IROC-Z lettering on the door, it's just not going to command that kind of coin. I'm not convinced these places actually sell these cars. Check out Gateway Classics, they're always listing cars at insane prices. My buddy always sends me links when they have a car similar to my Formula for like $17,500.00 I laugh hard especially when theirs has more miles than mine.
Vanguard Motor Sales sells old cars for insane prices all day long, and they're damn good at doing it. People will pay if it's the car they want. Trust me, I know: I paid $17K for my minty 1987 black Trans Am GTA 5.7L with digital dash, C&C tops, and 41k on the clock.

Definitely.
I sold my 82 Z28 with 22k miles for $15,000
And I wasn't taking a penny less. That is good money for an 82 Z28, but that one was as nice as any I've ever seen....and a SUPER extinct color combo
As pretty as an 87 GTA is, the top of the line 87 would it get it's lunch money swiped by a 90-92 L98 or LB9/5spd. If it weren't for nostalgia I wouldn't own an 87 at all. 89 is all the further I'd want to go back at this point. Between the increased performance of dual cat cars, and all the little improvements made over the years, there's no comparison.

Depends on what features you want. The 87 is unique in that it's the only year that offered the digital dash and the overhead console together. The C&C tops were the icing on the cake.

I've said it before and will continue saying it.......how do these places sell these cars for these INSANE prices ???
Do they ACTUALLY sell at those prices, or are they just wild, inflated asking prices?
A friend took his Corvette to one of those places. Gateway Classics, I believe. Asked about $30k more than the car market value was at presently. After several mos. he went back to get his unsold car. Lost about $700 in "marketing" and cleaning costs.
Again, are they actually selling? Cause the can ASK anything they want.

For a multitude of reasons, 1989 cars are where it's at, period.

My '88 GTA had the digital dash as well as the overhead, I will try to locate a pic with the overhead console in it
I've always said I would over pay for something that I really wanted as long as it was mint. I will never over pay for junk lol
Same here. If one of these dealers has the exact car I’ve always dreamed of in perfect mint condition with low miles and they can make a deal, I’m game. Life is short and some cars only turn up once...

I'd love to know what Gateway actually gets for their cars. They list some great stuff but at prices that are just ridiculous. I know there's one born every minute, but they price their stuff often $10K or more too high.
I know a couple people that have bought cars from these dealers (Gateway and Streetside)... They usually go for much less than those asking prices. One guy got $8k off the asking price of a car that they had up for a while. Some are consignment too and if the owner wants to make a deal they’ll sell for less. I don’t know what the Vanguard cars go for but they had a nice 1990 black and red IROC with 9k miles for sale for $36k for years. They took it down for almost a year and now it’s back up for $40k.
I don’t see how they can get that money for that... It seems insane. It’s not as rare or as well optioned as Scott’s L98 IROC and they admitted in one video it has shadows in the paint from custom pinstriping on the sail panels and the nose! To me that’s a paint blemish... you can’t get rid of that, it’s in the pigment that wasn’t exposed to air and light...
That GTA was an awesome deal and someone should have snatched it up here for that price! They won’t get $24k for it, it’s just a starting point so when they get talked down they’ll still make a nice profit..
Think they must have had their Cadillac color book out. When my Dad was buying Caddys in the '70s and early '80s, they often called their colors "firemist" red or whatever.
These guys really are nuts with their prices. Check out the pics underneath this "2500 Mile" car. The car must have only been driven in snow, and parked for any other weather scenario

$36K!!!?? Are IROCs even selling for that? I could probably find a really nice, low mile 89 TTA for that kind of money. Heck, I'm positive I could! I might even be able to score a driver quality Firehawk at that price.

Man, I missed out in 88. In 1987 they had " Anti Lock Brakes!" That's about right....no stopy. Anti-Lock Brakes

Just about every time I look on eBay, Gateway has 3 or 4 TTAs out there. With absurdly inflated prices of course.

Their prices are such a "turn off" that it makes you not even want to make an offer......even if the offer you want to make is fair market value.
I just dont understand how they sell anything at those insane asking prices

Gateway seems like a big outfit. Maybe they have so many cars that they can afford to just inflate the prices and hang on to them for a while, hoping to hook in a few suckers. And I guess the ones on consignment don't cost them anything anyway. If one of their showrooms was nearby, I'd check it out. You have to think that the actual sales price is much closer to market value.
What a scummy way to do business though, regardless of the offers that they may accept. "Let's ask the moon for average cars and hope that some suckers comes and pays it, but if someone offers a reasonable number, I guess we can just pull our pants back up and wait for someone else to f***"

Their total inventory is just north of 3000 cars, meaning that in order for them to actually have all those cars, they'd need a floor plan financed by a bank. Find me a single bank that would finance 3000 expensive cars that are almost ALL risky sales. These cars take months to sell, usually break within a month of leaving the lot, and with each month coming with an interest charge on every car, the profit just wouldn't be anywhere near enough for A) This place to stay open .. and B) The bank to feel comfortable giving them 30 million per year of cars. They must all be consignment, with the seller being allowed to ask whatever obnoxious number they can come up with

Yeah it would make you not want to buy anything from them. They're an extreme case of what new car dealers do. They want someone to pay MSRP, but you always walk out paying less and feel like you could have gotten them down even lower.
I'll admit it. I could swallow my moral revulsion if I made a reasonable offer on one of their $40,000 TTAs and they took it.
EDIT: My goodness, I usually just see their ads on eBay. I was just on their website. Every single car I clicked on was massively overpriced. To me, not even remotely realistic. Ordinary 4th gen Trans Am with 113K miles on it and they want $13K. My GTA's twin is for sale here. It has 5,000 more miles on it than mine did when I bought it two years ago. They want $18,000 more than I paid!
Everything they have is on consignment and I think people use them as their "winter storage facility"
They put it inside a heated showroom with an inanely high asking price knowing no one will pay it = free storage

Just makes them look stupid though. I work for a dealership that has one of the largest high end / exotic owned (not consignment) inventories in Canada, and whenever we do a consignment deal for someone, we don't even list their car until we agree on a price that's competitive in the market. For that reason, we don't have people on forums calling us crooks

The roof console was dropped after 1987.
Adding the roof console was a modification that some owners did and there was a FAQ on this site to do so. Your picture shows modifications from the aftermarket shifter to the wrong map pocket and wrong steering wheel. So I'd suspect if it had the console roof, it was another modification and not a good benchmark on what was correct and available.
I realize values are appreciating on these cars, but this places a lot of us in a odd predicament. If you sell what you have, sub 55K mile car with good paint, are you willing to spend money to buy another...I think the days of finding nice L98 IROC, GTAs, Formula 350s with under 55K miles, good paint and all original for under 10K are slowly coming to an unceremonious end.

Under 55K, all original, and good paint for less than $10K? I think those days are already past. With cars that old, the ones in that condition are being well cared for by an owner that likes it. They're not going to let them go so cheap.

Here is one that does not look too bad in the pics....43K miles and $10,900.....might be a good car for someone
