I've got an opportunity to pick up a super nice 3rd gen right now with 10,000 miles but I just cant talk myself into it because it's bright red.....ugh
Re: 1987 GTA - my old car is for sale again
I don't know why, but pound for pound, a red Formula is just more compelling to me than a red GTA. And that's not just a FAT ELVIS dig on the GTA. Maybe it's because Bright Red is just a generic color for a GTA, while the Formula capitalizes on it's "generic" identity. The GTA is a bit over the top already with the gold wheels and whatnot, that it really needs the metal flake paint, like Flame Red Metallic or Gunmetal Gray to pull it off, while the bright red goes better with the door call outs, bright silver wheels, and so on of the Formula. Idk, can't explain it. But now if the Formula is TBI or a LB9 auto, all bets are off.

There's a lot of people who think that bright red like the car above is THE color for sports car. I've never been into that, but I like variations of red. My GTA is flame red, which I like (although someday it might be green). I've had Cadillac's crystal red on a CTS Coupe and my '10 Camaro was red jewel tintcoat, both pretty cars. I just never have cared for sports car in the really bright red. But I did have an '02 Monte Carlo SS in bright red which I did like.

i agree with you on the 91-92 formulas .. the early formulas and gtas looked so much better .. the front end on them is so freaking ugly , what was pontiac thinking ..

It's cool man. Nothing wrong with wanting your car to look like Steve Martin's character in Roxanne going down the road, if that is your thing.

I don't hate them, but that nose was the reason I rushed out and bought a '90 Formula in February of 1990, a short model year.

I'd take the beak over bumperettes every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I get it, it's a lot to take in. But once you spend a little time with it, there is nothing else that really comes close.
