Maaco Paint Jobs or other cheap paint jobs???

I'm leaning towards repainting my car. For one the driver's side fender is dented bad and I want to replace it. Also there are markings along the driver's side door. Overall the paint isn't too bad with some minor chipping along the base of the windows on the doors. I was wondering what everyone's experience has been with Maaco, like their $250 jobs. Do you get clear coat with that. And if I did all the prep work would that make it cheaper. Or should I just check out local guys that my brother might know that might get me a deal. I only want the paint to last about 2 years for when I can afford another car and drive the IROC minimally and get a really nice paint job. I also wanted to get the SS hood and it would be a good time I thought to paint the whole car. Also, should I get rid of the bumper guards around the car, I guess that's what it's called that thin strip there on the door that is partly broken. Anyone have pictures without the strip.

Your in the same situation I was in about 2 weeks ago. I had a dented front drivers fender and The car was in dire need of a paint job. I bought I new fender for $30 at a salvage yard. I did all the body work including spot putting, wet sanding, and primer. I have a friend who works at maaco so I had him give me a great deal on a base/clear paint job. This is what I'm assuming you want. For me it only costed $125 for the job. It looks almost flawless. Its all in preparing the vehicle. You can't see it in the pics but The paint has a real strong metallic flake....almost looks goldish in the sun. Check the sig for color. I have more pics if you want them.

If you do all the body work yourself it shouldn't cost much at maaco and it will look much better. You want base/clear. It has a deeper shine to it but if it isn't done right can look like crap. It all depends on how well you prep the body. Ask for an extra coat of both base and clear ( this is what I have, pics posted above). If you did the body work right then the job should look real good. The reason you ask for the extra coat of clear is so you can wet sand the car after you get it back. wait 2 weeks after the paint job and then go back and take 1400 grit wet sanding paper (Autozone or Advanced Auto will have it) and wet sand. Dont press down just let the paper glide along the body ( of course using a hose with the pressure real low keeping the body wet at ALL times) and don't do one spot too long or else you will sand the clear coat totally off. I know this from experience....I can be an idiot sometimes. If you do this the paint will look like GLASS!! Its awesome.....but only if you don't half *** it.

The yellow is a bad idea unless the whole car is being painted yellow. If the car is black, leave it all black. Or black with silver ground effects would look nice, but not yellow!!! Being Canadian is not an excuse for you!! Just kidding!! Post some pics after you get the car painted. I just got mine back a few weeks ago and I paid WELL over ten times the $250 that maaco charges, but I got mine painted at a body shop that does mostly all of the warranty paint and body work for a Dodge dealership and a Honda dealership.

Hey

its a really nice ride you got there!
and the paint looks good!
Thanks for the info!

Dont worry man I know ur playing!
I saw a MOnte Carlo painted something like that on a Canadian Tire magazine. I thought it was kinda cool and I should try it on a Camaro. So I loaded paintshop pro and it turned out quite nice.
