T-tops

i have an 86 Iroc. The little flaps that hang over the windows have gone wrinkly and distorted. (not the best way to describe it)
im wondering if that is all one piece or if it can just be ripped out and another somehoe glued back in, cause its letting a little water into the car now. thanks.

take the t-top apart, rip that part off, buy new ones from the dealer for like $13 a piece and put em in. new ones are plastic and work very well

I had that very same problem on my IROC. It is a very low mileage, all original car so replacing the piece with the plastic ones from later years was out of the question for me. What I did was to take a piece of 3/4" wood trim and place it under the rubber flap and then (and here's the crazy part) I ironed it with a clothes iron. Don't leave the iron in one place for too long, rub back and forth with the iron. When the rubber got good and hot, I placed another piece of wood trim on top of the rubber (sandwich the rubber between the two strips of wood) and clamped it until the rubber cooled down. It worked pretty good for me, but my car hasn't had the exposure to the elements that most cars that age have so it may not work as well for you.

I see 427 listed in your username, you mind if I ask for details on your car? Year, make and model, what engine do you have in it?

TIA!

Ted <--curious for what I've seen something sounds pretty neat.

yeah i got the plastic parts from the dealer as well.

mine lookes like A$$!!! they were totally wrinkled, and lookin crappy.

i got the plastic ones which improved the look of the side of the car abouy 500%. definitely get them, and you will be happy. its amazing how well they look after you have been starting at the bad ones for a while.

here is a pic of the passenger's side. you can kinda see what it looks like....

The 427 is just my birthday, April 27. It is also my dream to one day own a COPO (who doesn't dream that?). I've always had a fascination with Chevy's 427 big block (again, who doesn't?)

The car is a '85 IROC-Z, factory original, with 2,490 original miles. It has the LB9 (305 TPI).

No, unfortunately I do not. With a wife and two kids, it just isn't in the budget.

Wait a minute, would a Pontiac Montana be considered a muscle car?
