Do you guys like headlight covers?

I was gonna get some smoke ones for my headlights. Now I don't know if I should. What do you guys think?

I think it depends on car to car. I'd say go for it, but be careful at high speeds, I hear they have a tendancy to fly off.

I had them on my RS. My advise is to not get them if u are going to be annoyed by having to keep taking them off and putting them on because u can't see anything with them on at night. They also have stick on brackets that, if u decide to take them off, sometimes take the paint right with them. Mine never flew off, but for a car your color, I wouldn't get them since its the same color and all they will do is make the headlights not visable instead of offsetting the color of the car like on my red RS which has body colored headlight pockets unlike a Z28 or IROC-Z.

Maybe try running the highbeams, unless they still blind other drivers or using fog lights as well.

1 is a solid color and the other is carbon fiber. I have both but don't use them anymore.

They'll make your car look tough as nails, but they DO fly off... I went through three sets before I gave up on them.

Nah, not a big fan of them.

Also, my brother who owned a '91 got in a car wreck because the woman pulling out said she couldn't see his headlights because of the blackouts. Which is true, I believe he used brights all the time when he had them on.

Same thing here. I outgrew them. It's a shame to stick anything on nice new paint...

I had the GTS headlight covers on my car for a couple of years. Here are some experiences I had with them:

- being pulled over by the cops...usually just had to take them off and pretend like I didn't know they were illegal, once even got a ticket for them
- the clips for the covers crack easily, must get creative to hold them in place
- one morning I went to put them on and one of them snapped in half! Emailed GTS and mailed them a reciept...air-mailed me a brand new set within a few days, WOW!
- since the clips cracked...the covers became a little loose and once one did fly off on the highway

After getting a repaint I decided not to put them on because nothing on my car had anymore black on it. (looked good on the two-tone red/black) Hope this helps u out!

Ever thought about maybe installing a set of those "louvered" ones on your car? I seen a pic somewhere,a red IROC had a set of them installed on it,looked BAD@$$! As some of you know I currently have 3 3rd gens. I have an 91 Bird,89 Iroc and an 89 RS. My Bird is currently running and being used for a daily driver. My other 2 are currently immobile. I guess you could call them "under construction" One thing about having more than one 3rd gen. If you are undecided about 2 different mods and you would really like to do both, yet you can't,but having 2 cars you can! I have actually thought about the smoke covers on at least one of my rides. I still haven't made up my mind which way to go. Looks like I will end up installing a set of "ghost lamps" on one of my cars. What exactely is a "ghost lamp" you ask? Well for one,I would have to buy 4 of them(Camaro has 4) Now to tell you what actually they do. During the day the lamps look like they have smoke covers on them, yet during the night the light shines through them as if they were white(lights off,black.....lights on,white)follow me????.....Anyways,I thought this would be killer on a black car JMO. So how many of you think that this would look good? Do I hear a poll in the making?

I like the headlights on thirdgen Camaros, so I wouldn't get them. I don't like them because they cover the whole headlight pocket. ChevyKen made his own I believe, and they go right over the light its self and I think they look pretty good.

Yeah, I made my own to prevent them from falling off and Im not a big fan of the "flush" look that the others give.

Here are a few pics of what mine look like:

I made them from some old taillight covers that I had.

IMO, that car would look better without them, check out Ions91Z and compare. Aren't the headlight pockets on Z28's and IROC-Z's that color different than the entire car??

I have a set of Lightguard brand covers that I bought when I had my sport coupe nose on my car. Unfortunately I broke one of mine. They screw into the core support just over the headlights, and are very easily removed by taking out the two screws (which are designed to remove easily with your fingers). The thing I really liked about them is that you didn't have to mount the cheesy velcro or tabs like with the GTS ones, and when you take them out you can't tell that they were ever there.

Anyone know if the Lightguard brand ones are still available anywhere, either new or used?

they do stay on if you mount them right...my first pair i didnt quite mount right and i lost one on the highway because the wind and air was getting under the cover into the headlight pocket and blowing it right off...i think they look awesome, but if your going to get them, get the GTS, they look a lot better, my friend got the AVS and they looked like crap, they mount with velco that sticks to the paint under the headlight pocket, messes with the paint and looks out of place....just my 2 cents

Just a tidbit- most of them come in clear too- they won't make your car look "tough as nails" but at least you won't have to take them off at night. Any opinions on the clear style?
