Color Change...

My car is all black right now... paint isnt in that good condition. If i were to change to sebring silver metallic, i'd probably have to paint the engine bay as well...

Does anyone know what kind of prices i am looking at if i were to do this change? and who would be able to do it the best, as in pulling the engine which will probably have to be done if i am correct..?

I plan on having 3 coats of paint then 3 coats of clear How does that sound?

Like alot of work... price range who the heck knows.. but it would b alot cus of all the labor to remove the engine and all the under the hood goodies clean it remove old color paint over and then put back in... not to mention the door jambs and all that goes with that... i think it would way too much money... not that im against spendin money on your car... i have the empty bank account and credit card bills to prove it

but if its ur only car... its gonna be outta commision for a while.. prolly 2-3 weeks minimum.. which i think it pushin it... most likely it would be over a month... and there is just so much labor involved... $$$

if u were to do the prep work your self.. it would save alot of money.. and you would know everything is bein done the way u want it ...

but if the car is for show purposes or its just a hobby.. then go for it.. but its gonna b big bucks..

i like black cars and would think you would b better off just gettin a repaint.. which is prolly bout 3-4k for a good job.. maybe more...

just one thing to add, i dont think a black engine bay would look all that bad with a silver car. I actually considered painting mine black and my car is red

its up to you though, you gotta live with it

I know there's a lot of black camaros around, but there is a reason for that. They're by far the best looking!! Trust me I just got my car painted jet black, the same color code as the ram airs and SS', and I couln't be any happier especially after waxing it for the first time today. For some reason, to me, camaros look more aggressive than any other third gen when they're black. I would prefer silver on GTA's or TA's more than camaros. I just think it fits their sleek look better. Also you want the engine bay to be the same color as the car. I saw a red Iroc that had a black painted engine bay at a car show. It was clean, but just looked a little silly. These are all my opinions, obviously, in case I sound stubborn.

Thx for all your help guys, its just something i am going to have to think about for a while... How many layers of paint and clear are good to have the paint shine great and look great for a long long time if kept in good condition... out of rain, snow, covered alot as well...

When I changed my color, I saved a ton of money by doing all the tear down and reassembly myself. I wanted the engine bay, door jambs, hatch jamb and everywhere else to painted the new body color. Basically I wanted it to look like it came from the factory that way. I removed absolutely everything from the engine bay, removed the hood, front fascia, rear fascia, lights, glass, doors, hatch, etc. When it was all painted I put the car back together myself. If you're mechanically enough inclined, that's the route I would take if you want to change the complete color.
